Kitchen extracts in Lindford

The FSA’s data shows about 6 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered in and around Lindford, up to about a mile and a half out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service covers Lindford. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. In Lindford, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from East Hampshire council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Chase Community Hospital is the nearest hospital to Lindford, about 1.1 miles south-west. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of All Saints or elsewhere in Lindford, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Weyford Nursery and Primary School or anywhere near Lindford, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Grease filter exchange in Lindford, done properly

Grease filters are the first line of defence in a kitchen extract. Their job is to stop grease getting further into the system, but only while they’re reasonably clean. Our grease filter exchange service swaps dirty filters for clean ones on a schedule. Typical jobs include damaged filters letting grease past and filter washing that keeps being missed, on restaurants and pubs, island canopies and baffle filters.

For a smaller kitchen near Lindford, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

When it’s something else

Grease filter exchange cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19
  • A canopy that does not capture the vapour properly
  • Grease deep in the extract system

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Lindford

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

The process

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. All told, the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. For a place like Lindford, we load the van from the survey notes so the work can be done in one visit where possible.

  1. We count and measure the filters in every canopy.
  2. A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
  3. On each visit, the dirty filters come out of the canopy.
  4. We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

How to get a quote

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

How the job changes from site to site

Baffle filters

Baffle filters use overlapping metal blades that force the air to change direction. Grease is thrown out of the airstream and collects on the baffles.

Mesh filters

Mesh filters are still found in many canopies. We exchange them on the same basis as baffles.

Leave it or put it right?

Filters full of grease are fuel sitting right above the cooking. A flare-up on the range can reach them and grease in the duct can carry a fire further. Keeping filters clean takes some of that fuel away. It’s better to plan the work at a site near Lindford than wait for a failure.

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.

Why us?

  • A written report with pictures after each visit
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • In business since 2009
  • Every job surveyed first

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

How we price grease filter exchange

We do not publish a price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • A few general shots of the system

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you will normally have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Questions from Lindford

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Lindford?

In Lindford, it’s East Hampshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Lindford out of term?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. With about 3 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Lindford, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos with your term dates and we will plan around them.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Is there a cleaning option for the filters we have?

Yes, filter cleaning is available. We will check your filters first because bent or damaged ones may need replacing.

What do you do with what you remove?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Every site has its own report.

Do you deal with bent or broken filters?

A badly damaged filter should be replaced. We’ll tell you which ones and why on the visit.

Is filter exchange enough instead of a full extract clean?

It isn’t. Clean filters help keep grease down, but the ducts and plenum still need cleaning at an interval set by risk assessment.
