Grease filter exchange across Ladwell

Grease filter exchange in Ladwell

Grease filters are the first line of defence in a kitchen extract. They catch grease before it reaches the plenum and ductwork and they do it best when they’re clean. With grease filter exchange, clean filters replace greasy ones at regular intervals. Typical jobs include a canopy that drips grease and filters so greasy the air can barely pass, across mesh filters, wall canopies and island canopies.

In a small place like Ladwell, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

How we price grease filter exchange

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • How big the system is

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Asking for a quote

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Need a price for grease filter exchange? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us about the site. We’ll explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Why deal with it now?

Some kitchens in Ladwell wash filters themselves to save the cost of a service, and that can work if it’s done thoroughly and on time. Where it slips, an exchange service takes the job off staff. Planning a trip to Ladwell ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Ladwell kitchens: local notes

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 6 pubs, bars and clubs in Ladwell and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Ladwell is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Ladwell are the job of Test Valley council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of All Saints or elsewhere in Ladwell, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. School kitchens, at schools like John Keble Church of England Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A hospital like Romsey Community Hospital, about 4.2 miles west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Ladwell is about 2 miles north of Chandler's Ford, in Hampshire. Honest limits

Grease filter exchange cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It will not put right:

  • A noisy or failed extract fan
  • Grease deep in the extract system
  • Odours from the discharge that filters won’t stop

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Mesh filters
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Wall canopies
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Island canopies
  • Baffle filters

Looking after it afterwards

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Always run the extract while cooking
  • Tell us if a filter is bent or damaged
  • Don’t let the full clean slip because filters are changed
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning

Fresh filters improve airflow at the canopy from the moment they’re fitted. Always run the extract during cooking so the filters do their job.

Damaged filters leave gaps in the defence. Sorting them now keeps grease where it can be caught.

What the work involves, part by part

School, care home and staff kitchens

For kitchens closed in the holidays, visits can be timed around term or rota, keeping the filters ready for the busy weeks.

The plenum

The plenum is the space behind the filters. It collects whatever grease the filters miss.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. For a village or hamlet like Ladwell, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
  2. An exchange schedule is agreed to suit your cooking.
  3. On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
  4. A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
  5. The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Ladwell questions

Can school kitchens in Ladwell be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. With about 3 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Ladwell, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Can you come to Ladwell after we close?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. It means the site in Ladwell keeps running as normal. Just call 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we will plan around them.

Which sectors do you work in?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

Can we skip TR19 cleans if the filters are changed regularly?

It isn’t. The rest of the system still collects grease at the right interval.

How long will you be on site?

We will confirm the time with your quote. In most cases, the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters.

Can damaged filters stay in the canopy?

Each filter is looked at when we exchange. We tell you about any that are damaged since a poor fit lets grease past.

Can you give a price for filter changes?

We price it on the number of filters and the visit frequency. Send us details or photos and we will quote, usually within one working day.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
