Grease filter exchange across Hollow Street

How we handle grease filter exchange in Hollow Street

A filter that does not sit right lets grease straight past. Bent, damaged or missing filters leave gaps, so we check every one at each visit. We point out any that need replacing. The work covers school and hospital kitchens, wall canopies and baffle filters, and the jobs we see most are gaps where filters have been removed and filters that come out of the sink still dirty.

Somewhere as small as Hollow Street, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

FAQs for Hollow Street

Do you cover smaller places like Hollow Street?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Hollow Street included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you work overnight in Hollow Street?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The work in Hollow Street can fit around your hours. When you call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.

Do you deal with bent or broken filters?

Filters that no longer fit properly need replacing. We’ll tell you which ones and why when we find them.

What’s TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

Do you clean filters as well as exchanging them?

Yes, that’s an option. We will check your filters first because bent or damaged ones may need replacing.

Do you take the used filters away?

We take them away. That is how an exchange works: you always have a clean set fitted and nothing greasy left on site.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. Seeing the system in photos first means the trip to Hollow Street can be planned properly.

  1. First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
  2. Together we set how often the filters should be changed.
  3. At every visit, the greasy filters are lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go straight back in, seated properly with no gaps.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Why act early in Hollow Street

When filters block, extraction suffers. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier, and the fan works harder to pull air through. A regular exchange keeps the airflow where it should be. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to Hollow Street is calmer for everyone.

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before work begins.

Why Hollow Street businesses choose us

  • Photo reports with every job

What your team can do, and what needs us

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Common problems we fix in Hollow Street

Repeated removal and washing takes its toll on filters. Damaged filters don’t sit flush, leaving gaps for grease to slip through.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Grease filters clogged with grease
  • Grease collecting in the filter channels
  • Grease left in baffles after washing
  • Bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Mary the Virgin, or anywhere in Hollow Street, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price is fixed

Fixed quotes for grease filter exchange in Hollow Street

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • What state the system is in
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, photos of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Part by part

Mesh filters

Mesh traps grease between its layers, so a quick rinse rarely gets it clean.

Baffle filters

In a baffle filter, the air zigzags through metal baffles. Grease is thrown out of the airstream and collects on the baffles.

Aftercare tips

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Report damaged filters so they can be replaced
  • Never leave gaps in the filter bank
  • Book full TR19 cleans alongside filter changes
  • Clean the canopy surfaces regularly

We tell you if we spot anything in the canopy that needs attention. That might mean bringing a TR19® clean forward, and we can arrange it.

If filters are already dripping, they’re overdue. A clean set straight away cuts the grease in the canopy and the plenum may need a clean as well.
