Fire damper testing in Eastling, done properly
Ductwork can carry fire and smoke between compartments, and the damper is what stops it. That depends entirely on the blade closing all the way. Annual drop testing is how you know for the dampers in your building. If you’re dealing with fire dampers that haven’t been tested for over a year and dust or grease build-up on damper blades, we can help.
For a building in or near Eastling, the visit is planned ahead, with access agreed in advance, and every damper is drop tested, reset and recorded, the same as anywhere.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Eastling: your questions answered
Which fire service covers Eastling?
It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Eastling. If a fire safety officer audits the building, they may ask for the latest damper test records.
Do you work at weekends in Eastling?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
How much notice should we give?
Earlier is better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.
What happens to dampers you cannot get to?
It goes on the report as inaccessible, with the reason. Access panels can be installed so the damper can be tested next time.
Do you work in Eastling?
Yes. Eastling is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.
Do you certify fire dampers?
You get a test report recording every damper we tested, showing where it is, whether it passed and what we found. It belongs in your fire safety log.
Do you test smoke dampers as well?
Yes. Smoke dampers are motorised, so we test them by operating them through their controls. Each one is checked for full travel and the result recorded.
How often should fire dampers be tested?
BESA guidance is that fire dampers are tested on completion of installation and at least annually after that. Spring-operated dampers need annual testing as a minimum.

Fire dampers in Eastling buildings
About 42 miles out from central London, Eastling is part of the South East area we work across. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. The fire and rescue service for Eastling is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Under the Fire Safety Order, the responsible person has to keep fire safety systems, dampers included, in working order, and the fire authority enforces that in most non-domestic premises.
Historic buildings that have had ventilation added later can hide dampers in awkward places; Belmont House and Gardens, about 1.4 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the area around Eastling. If you manage a school site such as Eastling Primary School, any fire dampers can be tested in the holidays.
Eastling is about 4 miles south-west of Faversham, in Kent. Eastling gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. 922 places in Kent are on our list, from busy centres to quieter spots. We also work in Maidstone, around 12 miles away.
Work in ME13 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. You will find streets such as The Street, Meeson's Close and Eastling Road, and we cover them all for fire damper testing. Nearby, we also carry out fire damper testing in The Valley (2 miles south), Throwley (2 miles south-east), Throwley Forstal (2 miles south-east), Painter's Forstal (2 miles north-east) and Stalisfield Green (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidstone (12 miles west), Ashford (10 miles south), Canterbury (12 miles east), Sittingbourne (6 miles north-west), Whitstable (11 miles north-east) and Faversham (4 miles north-east).
Landmarks near Eastling
In Eastling, that means kitchens and buildings near Doddington Place Gardens and Carpenters Arms Inn and the streets around them. Eastling’s nearest station is Teynham station, about 3.9 miles north. Well-known places in the area include Newnham Castle (0.9 miles north-west).
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
What a clean will not put right
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what fire damper testing won’t do:
- Dampers that were never installed where they’re needed
- Deciding where dampers should be fitted
- Fire-stopping gaps around the duct where it passes through the wall
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.
Parts of the system we cover
- Wall and floor dampers
- Fusible link fire dampers
- Offices and schools
- Motorised smoke dampers
- Hospitals and care homes
- Riser dampers
What happens if it’s left?
Leaving damper testing for another year doesn’t make the dampers any more likely to work. BESA guidance is to test at least annually, so a missed year leaves a gap in the record too. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.
Why book with us
- Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
- Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
- A fixed price before any work starts
- A written report with photos after every visit

Between visits
So the system stays in good health:
- Warn anyone working in ceiling voids about the dampers
- Update the register when ductwork changes
- File every damper report where your assessor can find it
- Don’t let hatches get painted shut or boarded over
Make sure trades working in ceilings and risers know where the dampers sit, and ask them not to run cables through or wedge them. Anything they disturb should be checked again.
Good access is half the battle. If a damper has no access panel, have one fitted ahead of the next visit.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
How we price fire damper testing
We do not publish a price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- Travel, parking and unloading
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The times the site is available
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email for straight advice and a fixed quote.
Asking for a quote
To speed up the quote, send us:
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- The postcode and the type of business
- Problems your staff have spotted
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.
How the visit works
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a couple of hours for a few dampers, and a day or more across a big site. For a village or hamlet like Eastling, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- Before the visit, we agree access, timings and any areas with restrictions.
- We open up ceilings and hatches and take off each access panel.
- We release each blade and check it shuts all the way.
- The damper is reset and its condition noted.
- Panels and tiles go back, and the results are written up.
Before we arrive
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
How to get a quote
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
