Ansty fire damper testing
Fire damper testing for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Ansty. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and fully insured.
- Damper actions from a fire risk assessment
- Motorised smoke dampers due for testing
- Dirty dampers that may not close
What fire damper testing can’t fix
Not every problem is solved by fire damper testing, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:
- Dampers that were never installed where they’re needed
- Approving the building’s fire strategy
- Fire risk assessments, which need a fire risk assessor
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

How we handle fire damper testing in Ansty
The point of testing is to find dampers that fail. When one sticks, has a damaged link or is corroded, we report it and offer remedials rather than leaving you with a problem and no fix. The work covers hospitals and care homes, offices and schools and wall and floor dampers, and the jobs we see most are dampers affected by leaks or condensation and smoke dampers with no recent test.
Somewhere as small as Ansty, fire dampers are usually found in a school, a care home, a hotel or a converted building, wherever there is one. Wherever there are dampers, each one needs testing at least annually.
The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Ansty questions
Can you get to a site in Ansty?
Yes, Ansty is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Which fire authority looks after Ansty?
That is West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. A report listing every damper, its location and its result is the easiest way to show the dampers are maintained.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.
What if a fire damper will not close?
The fault is recorded and explained in the report. A repair or a replacement can follow as a remedial job with a fresh test at the end.
Can you test motorised smoke dampers?
Yes, as well as drop testing fire dampers. The results go into the same report, with any faults set out clearly.
What does TR19 mean?
A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Fixed quotes for fire damper testing in Ansty
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- The scale of the work
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- Travel, parking and unloading
One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.
What to send for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- The site address and the type of premises
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll typically have a quote within one working day.
Common problems we fix in Ansty
Links and springs age like any other part. A link can be damaged, painted over or swapped for the wrong one, and a tired spring may not drive the blade home, which only shows up when the damper is dropped.
Look out for these warning signs:
- Fire dampers that fail to drop shut
- Buildings with no damper register
- Fire dampers that haven’t been tested for over a year
- Dampers clogged with dust or grease
Ockenden Manor, about 1.2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses near Ansty, and older buildings converted to new uses often have ventilation added later.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- Whether they recommend a next date
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
How the job changes from site to site
Fusible link fire dampers
Spring-operated fire dampers need testing at least once a year. Dropping the blade reveals springs that are tired and blades that drag.
Access panels
Testing depends on getting to the damper. Most need an access panel in the duct and a hatch in the ceiling or wall.
What happens if it’s left?
If a damper can’t close, the wall it sits in has a hole in it during a fire. Everything else about the compartment can be right and the duct still lets it down. It’s far better to find that out on a test than in a fire. In a small place like Ansty, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.
What you get with us
- Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
- Fully insured
- Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
- Photo reports with every job
Take a look at our cost guide or our accreditations and certificates.
What happens on the day
There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Visits to a village like Ansty are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- We go through the damper schedule and any previous faults.
- Each damper is found and checked for access.
- We test fire dampers by dropping them and smoke dampers by operating them through the controls.
- Dampers that pass are reset, and failures are logged with what we found.
- We report the results and offer remedials on failed dampers.
Before we arrive
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Move anything stored near the system
How to get a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
