Extract fan cleaning in Tackley
The fan is cleaned as part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but a fan can also need attention on its own, for example when it’s noisy or vibrating. Where only the fan is cleaned, the report says so. If you have less air being pulled from the kitchen and a fan shaking on its mounts, we can help.
In a small place like Tackley, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Why deal with it now?
A fan clean in Tackley does not take long: the work takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Waiting adds vibration, wear and a harder clean. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.
Why book with us
- Trading since 2009
- BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
- A written report with photos after each visit
- Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
When to call us in Tackley
The cooler the air, the more grease drops out, and on a roof or outside wall the fan can be in some of the coolest air in the system. That makes it a natural place for grease to settle.
Clients normally contact us when they notice one of these:
- A fan that has never been cleaned
- Grease stains around the discharge
- A fan motor running hot under a coat of grease
- A fan shaking on its mounts
If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Blenheim Palace is about 3.8 miles south-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.
Questions to ask before you book
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- If they look at the system before pricing
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- Whether the figure could change on the day
Looking after it afterwards
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Leave a clear route to the fan
- Make sure the fan is included each time
- File the fan’s report with your other records
- Run the extract throughout cooking
When the fan is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. A fan-only clean is recorded in the photo report.
Keep the route to the fan clear. Clear access means it’s never left out of a clean, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
Kitchen extracts in Tackley
Food hygiene inspections in Tackley are the job of West Oxfordshire council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Tackley. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
A kitchen near Tackley station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Nicholas or anywhere around Tackley, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Tackley: your questions answered
Which environmental health team covers Tackley?
In Tackley, it’s West Oxfordshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Which fire authority looks after Tackley?
It’s Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Tackley. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Will I get photos of the cleaned fan?
You get a photo report with before and after pictures of the fan. Full system cleans come with a TR19 certificate as well.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Not typically. We work when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends, so you keep your normal hours.
What if the fan needs more than a clean?
Anything beyond cleaning is flagged, with what we found. We can repair or replace it, and if it fails outright, our 24/7 emergency line is there.
What’s TR19?
BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we’ve been trading since 2009.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we’ll quote them together.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Honest limits
In fairness, some problems need a different fix:
- An undersized fan that can’t cope
- A dirty duct upstream of the fan
- An impeller that is bent or split
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

The process
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Tackley and turn up when the site is quiet.
- First we locate the fan and agree how it’s safely isolated.
- Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
- The impeller and the housing around it are scraped clean.
- We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
- The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.
Before we arrive
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Getting a quote
Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
