Extract fan cleaning in Strand-on-the-Green, done properly

A clean fan is not a repaired fan. If we find worn bearings, a struggling motor or damage to the impeller, we will tell you and fan repair or replacement is something we also do. You get an honest view of the fan’s condition. The work covers axial fans, discharge points and centrifugal fans, and the jobs we see most are a fan that no longer moves enough air and a fan that hums, whines or rumbles.

London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so work in Strand-on-the-Green is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Parking, loading and access to the roof are agreed with the building before the night of the clean.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with pictures of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

What happens if it’s left?

For a kitchen in Strand-on-the-Green, a noisy, greasy fan is often the first sign the whole system is overdue. Grease on the fan means grease in the duct before it so a full TR19 clean may be due. In a London building, a problem in a duct, damper or fan rarely stays in one unit.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Part by part

Wall fans

A wall fan pushes the air straight outside. It’s isolated, opened and cleaned inside and out.

Roof-mounted fans

Grease can escape from a roof fan onto the surrounding surface, so the outlet area is checked too. Heavy staining is noted on the report.

Questions from Strand-on-the-Green

Can you work in Strand-on-the-Green outside opening hours?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Strand-on-the-Green doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. When you call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.

Can school kitchens in Strand-on-the-Green be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. The FSA’s register shows about 38 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Strand-on-the-Green. Send us your term dates when you call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we will fit the work in.

Should the extract fan be cleaned as part of TR19?

Yes, the fan is cleaned as part of TR19. Anything that cannot be reached is recorded, so the record is accurate.

Will I get photos of the cleaned fan?

Every clean has a photo report, with anything we noticed. A full clean adds a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Do you repair extract fans as well as clean them?

Cleaning removes grease, but it can’t fix worn parts. Where the fan needs repair or replacement, we can do that too, with a fixed quote first.

Why is my extract fan noisy?

An unbalanced impeller, normally from uneven grease, is a common cause. We clean the fan and tell you if anything else, like worn bearings, is to blame.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it doesn’t spread.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and a few pictures, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Barnes Hospital (about 1.5 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Looking after it afterwards

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Report grease escaping from the fan
  • Do not turn the fan off mid-service
  • Book the fan into every full TR19 clean
  • Check filters are seated before cooking

Once it’s clean, the fan is closed up and run to check it’s working smoothly. Anything we notice, like noise, vibration or a worn part, goes on the report, so you can plan any repair.

Keep the route to the fan clear. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

What extract fan cleaning can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Damaged fan blades
  • A fan that will not start
  • A fan that’s too small for the system (a design question)

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.

How we price extract fan cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Any permits to work or inductions

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before work begins.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Managed blocks in London often need contractors booked in ahead, and we are happy to deal with the agent directly for a site in Strand-on-the-Green.

  1. We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. Grease is scraped from the impeller blades and the inside of the housing.
  4. We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
  5. The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
