Extract fan cleaning near Steep

Extract fan cleaning in Steep, done properly

A fan never collects grease in a neat, even layer. Uneven build-up unbalances the impeller, which brings vibration, noise and extra wear on the bearings and motor. Cleaning the impeller and housing puts that right. If you have a fan coated in grease inside its housing and rough running from the extract fan, we can put it right, from roof-mounted fans, in-line fans and discharge points onwards.

Somewhere as small as Steep, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. That’s why every job is written up in a report with photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

How the visit works

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Somewhere as small as Steep, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. First we check the fan’s condition and how it sounds.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. Each blade is cleaned so the impeller runs evenly.
  4. We clean the casing, the outlet and around the motor.
  5. The fan goes back into service with a report on its condition.

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Steep kitchens: local notes

The FSA’s data shows about 8 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered in Steep and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Steep sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Food hygiene inspections in Steep are the job of East Hampshire council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of All Saints, or anywhere in Steep, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Aftercare tips

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Listen for new noises or vibration from the fan
  • Look for grease stains near the discharge
  • Run the extract throughout cooking
  • Tell us if the extract feels weaker

We take away the grease and dirty water from the fan clean. On a roof or outside wall, we leave the surrounding area tidy.

The fan stays cleaner when less grease gets past the canopy. Clean, well-seated filters are the fan’s first protection, and replace any that are damaged.

How we price extract fan cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • The condition of the system
  • The size of the system
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, send us:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • A few general shots of the system

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, a few pictures and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

What a clean won’t put right

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A faulty speed controller or isolator
  • Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
  • Damaged fan blades

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Centrifugal fans
  • Axial fans
  • Discharge points
  • Fan housings
  • In-line fans
  • Roof-mounted fans

When to call us in Steep

Grease builds up unevenly on the blades. The difference throws the impeller off balance, wearing bearings and mounts. Left too long, grease turns into wear.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • Grease stains around the discharge
  • A heavily greased fan housing
  • A fan that no longer moves enough air
  • A fan motor running hot under a coat of grease

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Steep Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Questions to ask before booking

What the work involves, part by part

Inline duct fans

Space around an inline fan can be tight, so we plan how to reach and clean them. Anything out of reach is recorded.

Impellers and blades

A clean impeller shows any damage: chips, distortion or wear. We note any concerns.

What your team can do, and what needs us

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
