FAQs for Plaxtol

Do you cover smaller places like Plaxtol?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Plaxtol included. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Plaxtol?

That is Tonbridge and Malling council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Plaxtol. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

How much does extract fan cleaning cost in Plaxtol?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

Why is my extract fan noisy?

Build-up on the impeller is a frequent reason, since uneven grease makes it run out of balance. Worn bearings and motor problems are others, which our report will flag.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, along with a few pictures and any previous report.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

Does a TR19 kitchen extract clean cover the fan?

Yes, a full TR19 clean includes the fan. Anything that cannot be reached is recorded, so the record is accurate.

Extract fan cleaning in Plaxtol

We have been trading since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and full insurance. If you have a fan left out of previous cleans and rough running from the extract fan, we can help.

Somewhere as small as Plaxtol, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

Each visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens if it’s left?

A greasy fan at the discharge can spread grease onto the roof or wall around it. It marks the area around the outlet and leaves more fuel outside, which is one more reason to keep it clean. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What we do, step by step

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes an hour or two for most single fans. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Plaxtol.

  1. We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
  2. Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
  3. Grease is scraped from the impeller blades and the inside of the housing.
  4. We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
  5. It’s closed up, run and checked, and pictures go into your report.

How to prepare

Advice

What affects the quote in Plaxtol

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The condition of the system

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • A few general shots of the system
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Kitchen extracts in Plaxtol

Food Standards Agency records include about 3 pubs and bars across Plaxtol and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Plaxtol sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Environmental health officers from Tonbridge and Malling council inspect food businesses in Plaxtol. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

For schools such as Plaxtol Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Plaxtol Church or elsewhere in Plaxtol, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Plaxtol

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

What we’re called out for in Plaxtol

A fan collects more grease when the filters let more through. Missing, damaged or badly fitted filters let grease travel the whole system, so the fan takes far more than it should.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Weak extraction at the canopy
  • An extract fan with no cleaning record
  • Fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan
  • A fan motor running hot under a coat of grease

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Plaxtol (Old Soar Manor is about 0.7 miles north-east), fitting access panels needs care.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Whether the price is fixed

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

When something else is needed

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what extract fan cleaning won’t do:

  • A dirty duct upstream of the fan
  • A fan that will not start
  • A fan that was never right for the kitchen

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on in Plaxtol

  • In-line fans
  • Centrifugal fans
  • Discharge points
  • Axial fans
  • Fan housings
  • Roof-mounted fans

Part by part

Roof-mounted fans

On a roof, the air is cooler and grease drops out faster. The impeller and housing are scraped and degreased.

Kitchens with long cooking hours

A long-hours kitchen can’t afford a fan failure. A clean fan is less likely to strain, and our 24/7 emergency callout is there if it happens anyway.
