Extract fan cleaning near Ascot

Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Ascot

Every kitchen extract depends on its fan: it pulls air from the canopy, through the duct and out of the building. Grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades and housing and we clean it off. If you have grease escaping from the fan outlet and a heavily greased fan housing, we can put it right, from fan housings, roof-mounted fans and centrifugal fans onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Why it’s worth doing now in Ascot

Grease on a roof fan can also escape outside. It marks the area around the outlet and leaves more fuel outside, which is one more reason to keep it clean. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Why book with us

Keeping the system healthy

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Watch for grease marks around the outlet
  • File the fan’s report with your other records
  • Report rattles or humming early
  • Book the fan into every full TR19 clean

A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If only the fan is cleaned, the photo report says so.

Make sure the fan is reachable. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.

Kitchen extracts in Ascot

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 8 bars, pubs and nightclubs in Ascot and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Food hygiene inspections in Ascot are the job of Windsor and Maidenhead council’s environmental health team. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Ascot is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as South Ascot Village Primary School or anywhere near Ascot, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Heatherwood Hospital about 0.8 miles west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of All Souls or elsewhere in Ascot, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Ascot questions

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Ascot?

In Ascot, it’s Windsor and Maidenhead council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

Is Ascot within the area you cover?

Yes, Ascot is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we’ll quote them together.

Can you fix a fan that is worn out?

Anything beyond cleaning is flagged, with what we found. We offer extract fan repair and replacement, and there’s a 24/7 emergency callout for breakdowns.

What information do you need?

A short description and a few photos, with the address and opening hours. We will ask for anything else we need.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.

Why has my extract fan got louder?

Build-up on the impeller is a frequent reason, since uneven grease makes it run out of balance. It can also be wear in the bearings or motor, which our report will flag.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

What a clean won’t put right

Not every problem is solved by extract fan cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
  • A motor that has burnt out
  • A faulty speed controller or isolator

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Roof-mounted fans
  • Centrifugal fans
  • Discharge points
  • Axial fans
  • Fan housings
  • In-line fans

How the job changes from site to site

Roof-mounted fans

Many kitchen extracts end at a fan on the roof. They’re cleaned where safe access allows, and anything we can’t reach is recorded.

Inline duct fans

Some fans are built into the duct itself. We get to them through the duct or casing, once they’re isolated.

What happens on the day

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Ascot and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We locate the fan and plan how to reach and isolate it.
  2. We isolate the power before opening the housing.
  3. Grease is scraped off the impeller blades and casing.
  4. Blades, housing and surrounds are degreased with care around the electrics.
  5. We reassemble, run and photograph the fan.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

How to get a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.
