Ductwork cleaning in Wapping, Greater London
One call covers cleaning of kitchen extract ductwork, horizontal runs and vertical risers through access panels in Wapping: survey, fixed quote, work and sign-off. CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, ISO 9001 and fully insured.
- Duct runs that can’t be reached
- Ductwork that has never been cleaned
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- The scale of the work
- The condition of the system
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
Asking for a quote
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- The site address and the type of premises
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Wapping
Each extract duct we take on in Wapping goes through the full routine: readings at set points, heavy grease scraped out by hand, then degreasing to suit the deposit. Post-clean readings and pictures complete the record. The work covers access panels, horizontal duct runs and bends and junctions, and the jobs we see most are high readings at a recent grease test and an insurer asking for TR19 evidence.
London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so work in Wapping is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What the work involves, part by part
Attenuators and discharge
The discharge is where the duct ends and air leaves the building. Grease can collect there and stain the area around it, so it’s cleaned as far as safe access allows.
Horizontal duct runs
Long horizontal runs need access panels at regular intervals. Any stretch out of reach is noted and can fit extra panels.
How it works
Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. We fit London jobs around the building rather than the other way round, so a visit in Wapping is typically out of hours.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points.
- Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.
How to prepare
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
Getting a quote
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
Related advice
When to call us in Wapping
Many ducts do not have enough access panels. Stretches with no way in may never have been touched, and the grease there keeps building out of sight.
Look out for these warning signs:
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Ductwork that has never been cleaned
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
Church and community hall kitchens, near St Peter's or anywhere around Wapping, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
Before you book anyone
- What insurance they carry
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- Whether a written report and pictures are included
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
Between visits
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Report any grease dripping from duct joints
- Check readings when the menu changes
- Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Keep to the interval on the report
The report gives a recommended next clean date, based on the readings and your daily cooking hours, in line with BESA guidance.
Have access panels fitted where sections can’t be reached. It doesn’t stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.
Other services in Wapping
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.
Wapping kitchens: local notes
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 302 pubs, bars and clubs and about 45 hotels and guest houses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Wapping. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Kitchens in Wapping get their food hygiene inspections from Tower Hamlets council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. The fire and rescue service for Wapping is London Fire Brigade. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.
Commuter trade near Wapping station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Wapping is The Royal London Hospital, about 0.7 miles north.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Wapping
Do you work overnight in Wapping?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. That way a site in Wapping does not have to lose a day’s trading. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.
Do you clean school canteen extracts around Wapping out of term?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Around Wapping, the Food Standards Agency lists about 98 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person has to manage fire risk, and without records, many insurers may refuse or reduce a claim.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes, of course. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we’ll propose a schedule with a fixed quote.
How long does ductwork cleaning take?
It takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. We’ll confirm the time when we quote.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
How much notice do you need?
For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.
What does TR19 mean?
It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
