The Chart ductwork cleaning
Ductwork cleaning for commercial sites in The Chart and across Surrey. BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease.
- Duct runs with no cleaning record
- Grease leaking from duct joints
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
- Don’t switch the extract off early
- Leave a way through to the access panels
- Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached
File the paperwork in the maintenance log. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the pictures make the duct’s condition easy to see.
Keep the fan on throughout service. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.
Ductwork cleaning in The Chart, done properly
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. The work covers attenuators, bends and junctions and multi-storey ducts, and people most often call us about readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test and gaps where access panels were never fitted.
Work in a small place like The Chart starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Why deal with it now?
A dirty duct is something insurers ask about. Many require cleaning to TR19, and they can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. A fault that closes a site in a village like The Chart affects everyone who depends on it.
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.

How the job changes from site to site
Horizontal duct runs
The underside of a horizontal duct collects the most grease. We scrape out the heavy layer first, then the walls and roof are cleaned too.
Multi-storey and shared buildings
A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. Visits are planned around the building’s hours, out of hours where possible.
The Chart kitchens: local notes
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 4 pubs, bars and clubs within about 1.5 miles of central The Chart. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Fire safety in The Chart falls to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Food hygiene inspections in The Chart are the job of Tandridge council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Tandridge Priory about 0.6 miles north-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Chartwell is about 1.9 miles east), access may need planning.
The Chart is about 6 miles south-east of Caterham, in Surrey. We carry out ductwork cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in The Chart and the rest of Surrey. The Chart is one of 395 towns, villages and districts in Surrey we cover for ductwork cleaning. There’s also a page for London, about 18 miles away.
Work in RH8 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need ductwork cleaning at premises on Stoneleigh Road, St Andrews Way and Ridlands Lane or a nearby road, we can help. Neighbouring places we cover for ductwork cleaning include Pains-Hill (1 mile west), Moorhouse Bank (1 mile north-east), Goodley Stock (1 mile east), Limpsfield (1 mile north-west) and Crockham Hill (1 mile south-east). Further out, we also cover Epsom (15 miles north-west), Horley (10 miles south-west), Redhill (9 miles west), Ewell (15 miles north-west), Reigate (10 miles west) and Caterham (6 miles north-west).
Around The Chart
Around The Chart, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Carpenters Arms, Oxted School and Hazelwood School and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Hurst Green station, about 1.6 miles west. Nearby you will also find Tandridge Priory (0.6 miles north-west). For a walk, there’s Botley Hill and Bay Pond.
How the visit works
Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in The Chart before we set off.
- Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
- A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
- Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
- We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
- Readings, pictures and a recommended next clean date complete the job.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
How to get a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Advice
When something else is needed
We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:
- A damper stuck open in the duct
- A worn-out fan that needs replacing
- Sections that can’t be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

The Chart questions
Can you work in The Chart outside opening hours?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in The Chart keeps running as normal. Let us know the hours you are closed and we’ll book within them.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for The Chart?
The Chart is in the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
How much does ductwork cleaning cost in The Chart?
It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. To get one, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.
What accreditations do you have?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
What happens to the waste?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. We do not leave it behind.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
What do you do to protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.
What we’re called out for in The Chart
Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Long horizontal runs, bends, changes in size and the foot of a riser all collect more, and those are the points we pay most attention to.
Clients typically contact us when they notice something like this:
- An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
- A duct nobody has opened in years
School kitchens, at schools like Limpsfield CofE Infant School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
What your quote should include
- When the next visit should be, and why
- Whether a survey comes first
- Whether VAT is included
- Proof of insurance
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
