How we handle ductwork cleaning in Tangmere

No two duct runs are the same, in Tangmere or anywhere else. Some run a short distance to an outside wall, others climb several floors to the roof. We map the route during the survey, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. If you have heavy grease at the base of a riser and stale grease odours from the duct, we can help.

Kitchens around a place like Tangmere are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Why it’s worth doing now in Tangmere

Grease narrows the duct and slows the air. Less air moves, so heat and smoke stay in the kitchen while the fan strains, and grease may start to leak from joints. Booking ahead lets us plan the trip to Tangmere at a time that suits you.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Why book with us

  • We are fully insured
  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
  • Fixed quotes from a survey or pictures
  • A BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease

Honest limits

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Ductwork that was poorly designed
  • Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
  • Sections that can’t be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Attenuators
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Access panels
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Bends and junctions
  • Vertical risers

What we do, step by step

The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. In a smaller place like Tangmere, parking is rarely the issue, but tell us about gates, roof access and opening hours.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

How to get a quote

Advice

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Keep your cleaning records together
  • Diarise the next duct clean
  • Flag drips from the duct right away
  • Run the extract fan throughout service

The report gives a recommended next clean date, worked out from the grease we found and how long you cook each day, in line with BESA guidance.

Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. It doesn’t stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.

Part by part

Attenuators and discharge

The last section of duct before the discharge is often the coolest, which can mean heavier deposits. We include it in the clean and the readings.

Vertical risers

Risers often pass through floors and walls, so fire dampers may be fitted where it crosses them. Damper testing is a separate service.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Tangmere

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 6 restaurants, cafés and canteens in and around Tangmere, up to about a mile and a half out. Each kitchen that cooks under a canopy sends grease-laden air into a duct, where it cools and settles. It’s Chichester council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Tangmere. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Tangmere sits within the area of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Tangmere (Goodwood House is about 1.8 miles north-west), fitting access panels needs care. School kitchens, at schools like Tangmere Primary Academy for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Tangmere

Is Tangmere within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can you come to Tangmere after we close?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The site is handed back ready to open. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, mention when the site is quiet.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not typically. We work when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends, so the site can carry on as normal.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Do you install duct access panels?

Yes, extra panels can be fitted. It means more of the duct can be cleaned next time, and the report will show where they’re needed.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.

How long will the duct clean take?

It depends on the length of the duct, the number of access panels and how much grease there is. As a guide, it takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers.

What we’re called out for in Tangmere

Air cools as it moves away from the canopy. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, so duct runs keep collecting grease long after the canopy.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Duct runs with no cleaning record
  • Heavy grease at the base of a riser
  • A grease test showing the duct is overdue
  • Thick crusts of old grease along the duct

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Andrew's Church or elsewhere in Tangmere, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

What your quote should include

  • What insurance they carry
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
