Ductwork cleaning in Stocker's Head, done properly

Between the canopy and the fan runs the ductwork, hidden above ceilings and inside walls. Grease settles along every metre of it, and that is where a kitchen fire can travel. Our ductwork cleaning reaches inside the runs and risers through access panels, to BESA TR19® Grease. If you have smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork and an insurer asking for TR19 evidence, we can help, from multi-storey ducts, horizontal duct runs and attenuators onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

Each visit ends with a written report and pictures, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Kent. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached
  • Diarise the next duct clean
  • Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
  • Flag drips from the duct right away

Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report and why. You can then decide whether to have access panels fitted.

Keep the fan on throughout service. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Somewhere like Stocker's Head, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. We test again, take photos and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

How we price ductwork cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • How big the system is
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Problems your staff have spotted

Need a price for ductwork cleaning? Please give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with a few details about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Ductwork cleaning in Stocker's Head: the local picture

The FSA’s data shows about 3 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Stocker's Head. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Stocker's Head. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Environmental health officers from Ashford council inspect food businesses in Stocker's Head. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Belmont House and Gardens is about 3.9 miles north), access may need planning. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Peter and St Paul, or anywhere in Stocker's Head, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Charing Church of England Primary School or anywhere near Stocker's Head, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what ductwork cleaning won’t do:

  • An extract fan that has stopped working
  • A damper stuck open in the duct
  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work

  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions
  • Access panels
  • Vertical risers
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Multi-storey ducts

What the work involves, part by part

Bends and transitions

Grease tends to pile up at elbows. We clean it back by hand and with degreaser, and readings are taken there before and after.

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. We agree a sequence that suits the building, out of hours where possible.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Stocker's Head in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 2 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Stocker's Head, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Stocker's Head?

It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Stocker's Head. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

What information do you need?

Some pictures and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we will ask.

How long does it take to clean extract ducts?

A short duct can be cleaned in a few hours, but long or complex ducts may take several visits. Visits are planned out of hours.

What about areas you can’t get to?

Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We carry full insurance and have been trading since 2009.

Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?

A photo report, with readings and before and after photos, plus a TR19 certificate for a full system clean. The report says when the next clean is due.
