Ductwork cleaning across Seaview

Ductwork cleaning in Seaview, done properly

Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If you have fat dripping from the ductwork and readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test, we can help, from horizontal duct runs, multi-storey ducts and bends and junctions onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Aftercare tips

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Never cook with a filter missing
  • Flag drips from the duct right away
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
  • Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned

Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the area around them is cleaned down. Waste grease and water are taken away.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Moving air carries vapour through rather than letting it settle, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

When something else is needed

Not every problem is solved by ductwork cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • A damper stuck open in the duct
  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Seaview

Seaview is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Food Standards Agency records include about 7 pubs and bars and about 5 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Seaview. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Kitchens in Seaview get their food hygiene inspections from Isle of Wight council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Historic houses near Seaview, such as Nunwell House about 3.3 miles south-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Nettlestone Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Seaview is about 2 miles east of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Whatever kind of site you run in Seaview, ductwork cleaning is something we can help with. We can work out of hours so trading isn’t interrupted. 125 places in the Isle of Wight are on our list, large and small. Portsmouth is in our area too, about 6 miles from Seaview.

Here we cover the PO34 postcode area for ductwork cleaning. That includes premises on High Street, Madeira Road and Church Street and nearby roads. Other places close to Seaview include Nettlestone (1 mile south), Spring Vale (1 mile north-west), Pondwell (1 mile west), Puckpool (1 mile west) and Appley (2 miles west). Larger places within reach include Newport (8 miles west), Cowes (9 miles west), Sandown (5 miles south-west), Shanklin (7 miles south-west), Ventnor (10 miles south-west) and East Cowes (8 miles west). For island and remote sites, a little more planning is needed, so let us know when you get in touch.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Common problems we fix in Seaview

Grease settles fastest where the air slows down. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
  • Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
  • Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
  • Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct

A hospital like Gosport War Memorial Hospital, about 5.3 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Comparing quotes

  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

How it works

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Seaview.

  1. First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
  2. You get a fixed price before work starts.
  3. We clean section by section, working from panel to panel.
  4. Bends, risers and the base of each riser get extra attention.
  5. Readings, pictures and a recommended next clean date complete the job.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

Getting a quote

To get a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will normally have a quote within one working day.

Seaview questions

Which environmental health team covers Seaview?

The local authority for Seaview is Isle of Wight council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Seaview in the summer holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 6 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Seaview, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.

What if part of the duct cannot be reached?

Sections out of reach are written down on the report, as TR19 expects. New panels can be fitted to reach them in future.

Do we have to stop cooking while the ducts are cleaned?

We plan the clean when you’re not cooking. Most kitchens book overnight or weekend cleans, so no service is lost.

What do you do with what you remove?

We take it away at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.

Do you work in Seaview?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Seaview.

How much does ductwork cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.

What does TR19 mean?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • How big the system is
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from pictures. Try to include:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

Need a price for ductwork cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us about the site. We will talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before anything is booked.

Part by part

Access panels

Access panels are the doors that let us into the duct. Without them, parts of the duct can’t be reached and the report has to say so.

Multi-storey and shared buildings

Ducts in taller or shared buildings often run past other occupiers. Access is planned with the building’s managers, so the clean is done safely and quietly.
