Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Ovingdean

Nobody sees duct grease building, so nobody notices it until something goes wrong. Flames pulled in from the cooking line can ignite it, and fire can then run along the ductwork to other parts of the building. Removing it is the whole point. If you have grease seeping out of the duct seams and a duct nobody has opened in years, we can put it right, from vertical risers, multi-storey ducts and attenuators onwards.

For a kitchen in or near Ovingdean, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Inside an extract duct: heavy deposits on the left, cleaned metal on the right

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Ovingdean and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
  2. You get a fixed price before work starts.
  3. Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
  4. Bends, risers and the base of each riser get extra attention.
  5. Readings, pictures and a recommended next clean date complete the job.

How to prepare

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

How to get a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Common problems we fix in Ovingdean

Grease settles fastest where the air slows down. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
  • Duct runs that cannot be reached
  • Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Ovingdean Hall School or anywhere near Ovingdean, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • What insurance they carry

Our hiring checklist

When it’s something else

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Ductwork that was poorly designed
  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

Ovingdean: your questions answered

Is ductwork cleaning any different in a coastal place like Ovingdean?

Yes, to a degree: at about 1 mile from the coast, Ovingdean gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. We look at fans, cowls and fixings for rust as well as grease.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Ovingdean?

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Ovingdean. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

What information do you need?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few pictures and any previous report.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

How much notice do you need?

Book as early as you can for planned work, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

What is TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We carry full insurance and have been trading since 2009.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Part by part

Horizontal duct runs

Horizontal runs carry the extract along ceilings and through voids. They collect grease as the air cools and slows, and we clean them section by section through access panels.

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. Visits are planned around the building’s hours, out of hours where possible.

Ovingdean kitchens: local notes

At about 1 mile from the coast, Ovingdean is close enough for sea air to matter. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Food Standards Agency records list about 43 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 13 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Ovingdean. Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. Ovingdean is covered by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Wulfran's Church or elsewhere in Ovingdean, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Royal Pavilion, about 2.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses near Ovingdean; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

Ovingdean is about 3 miles south-east of Hanover, in Brighton and Hove. Why it’s worth doing now in Ovingdean

Insurers know the risk of a greasy duct. Many require cleaning to TR19, and they can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before work begins.

  • Fixed quotes, typically within one working day

Take a look at what affects the cost or our accreditations.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
