Ductwork cleaning in Hove
In doctor’s terms, the ductwork is the system’s arteries: diagnose where grease has built up, clear it and confirm the result. Grease readings before and after give you the evidence, alongside before and after pictures. We are often asked to deal with grease leaking from duct joints and sections of duct with no access panels, on multi-storey ducts, bends and junctions and vertical risers.
For a pub, café or restaurant in a town like Hove, losing a day’s trade to cleaning is not an option, so cleans are booked after closing, early in the morning or on a quiet day. By the next service, the kitchen is ready to cook in again.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Common questions in Hove
Can the work in Hove be done at night or at weekends?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in Hove needn’t be disturbed. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Does being near the coast affect ductwork cleaning in Hove?
Yes, to a degree: at about 1 mile from the coast, Hove gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. Outdoor metalwork near the sea is worth inspecting at each visit.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
Not in itself. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark, and many insurance policies ask for proof of TR19® cleaning. The legal duty sits in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales.
How do you protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.
What happens if there are not enough access panels?
Without a way in, a section can’t be cleaned properly. Those parts are listed, and we can install panels so they’re reached next time.
Is Hove in your area?
Yes. Hove is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.
How far ahead should we book?
For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
Leave it or put it right?
Insurers know the risk of a greasy duct. Many require cleaning to TR19, and they can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A certificate that covers the ductwork is what they want to see. A small fault found now is a quick job; the same fault found later can close the site.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Do you need ductwork cleaning in Hove?
Grease settles fastest where the air slows down. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Gaps where access panels were never fitted
- Ductwork that has never been cleaned
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
School kitchens, at schools like St Andrew's CofE (Aided) Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Before booking anyone

Part by part
Horizontal duct runs
Grease settles on the floor of a flat duct run. Thick deposits are scraped out by hand before degreasing, then the walls and roof are cleaned too.
Attenuators and discharge
At the end of the duct is the discharge. Grease can collect there and stain the area around it, so it’s cleaned as far as safe access allows.
What affects the quote in Hove
The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- How many systems or sites are involved
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The size of the system
- Any permits to work or inductions
Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- A few general shots of the system
- The postcode and the type of business
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
For ductwork cleaning in Hove, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, and send pictures or your last report if you can. A fixed quote usually follows within one working day.
How it works
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your photos. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. A few pictures of the system and its access points help us plan a visit in Hove.
- First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
- Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
- Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
- Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
- Post-clean readings and photos go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.
How to prepare
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
Ask for a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Related advice
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
When something else is needed
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Duct sections that need replacing
- A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
- A damper stuck open in the duct
If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Ductwork cleaning around Hove
Hove is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 382 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 83 sandwich bars and takeaways across Hove and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Each kitchen that cooks under a canopy sends grease-laden air into a duct, where it cools and settles. Hove is covered by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Hove is Montefiore Hospital, about 0.7 miles east. If you cook for passing trade around Hove station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.
