Ductwork cleaning around Hanover
At about 1 mile from the coast, Hanover is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 243 pubs and bars and about 42 hotels and guest houses across Hanover and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. The fire and rescue service for Hanover is East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
For kitchens close to Brighton station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of the Annunciation or elsewhere in Hanover, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Ductwork cleaning in Hanover, done properly
Nobody sees duct grease building, so nobody notices it until something goes wrong. A flare-up drawn up from the range can light it, carrying a fire along the duct and into rooms far from the kitchen. Cleaning the duct takes that fuel away. The work covers bends and junctions, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers, and people most often call us about thick crusts of old grease along the duct and an insurer asking for TR19 evidence.
Kitchens around a place like Hanover are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

How it works
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Because the survey comes first, a visit to Hanover can typically be finished without a second trip.
- We map the duct route and check where the access panels are.
- Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
- Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
- The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
- Readings and pictures are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.
Before we arrive
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

Why deal with it now?
There’s no law that names TR19. The Fire Safety Order 2005 makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, including the grease inside the extract ductwork. When a site near Hanover shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Do you need ductwork cleaning in Hanover?
Ducts in Hanover gather grease for the same reasons as ducts anywhere: hours of cooking, the type of food and how well the filters are kept. Under BESA guidance, the minimum interval is 3, 6 or 12 months, by daily cooking hours.
The symptoms we are asked about most include:
- Sections of duct with no access panels
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
School kitchens, at schools like Elm Grove Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Hanover
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Hanover in the summer holidays?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. There are about 49 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Hanover. You can ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the dates the site is empty.
Do you work in villages like Hanover?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Hanover is covered. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
How long does it take to clean extract ducts?
It depends on the length of the duct, the number of access panels and how much grease there is. As a guide, it takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access.
What happens to the waste?
It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we will talk you through the next steps.
Is a quote from pictures possible?
Yes, for many jobs. Send wide shots, close-ups of any access panels and anything that worries you, and a fixed quote normally follows within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we will say so.
Do you install duct access panels?
Yes, we do. We will point out where panels are needed, and fitting them means future cleans are more complete.
Are you accredited?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.
Part by part
Attenuators and discharge
Near the discharge, the air has cooled the most, so it can collect more grease than expected. We include it in the clean and the readings.
Horizontal duct runs
Horizontal runs carry the extract along ceilings and through voids. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, and we clean them section by section through access panels.
How we price ductwork cleaning
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- How big the system is
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- The number of sites or systems
We do not list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.
Helping us quote
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- The postcode and the type of business
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Keeping the system healthy
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Flag drips from the duct right away
- Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.
Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.
