Ductwork cleaning in Hillingdon
Ductwork in Hillingdon is cleaned the same thorough way as everywhere else we work: readings at set points, heavy grease scraped out by hand, then degreasing to suit the deposit. Readings are taken again afterwards and photos go into your report. Typical jobs include sections of duct with no access panels and thick crusts of old grease along the duct, on bends and junctions, vertical risers and access panels.
Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, with extract ducts that can climb several floors to discharge at roof level. In Hillingdon, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Ductwork that was poorly designed

- Vertical risers
- Multi-storey ducts
- Bends and junctions
- Attenuators
- Horizontal duct runs
- Access panels
What we do, step by step
We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before work begins, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Before any visit in Hillingdon, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Move anything stored near the system

Questions from Hillingdon
Can you work in Hillingdon outside opening hours?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in Hillingdon keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Hillingdon?
Fire safety enforcement in Hillingdon is handled by London Fire Brigade. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
What happens if there are not enough access panels?
Without a way in, a section cannot be cleaned properly. We record those sections on the report and can fit access panels.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. For many sites, pictures and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
Which sectors do you work in?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
What accreditations do you have?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?
A photo report, with readings and before and after photos, plus a TR19 certificate for a full system clean. It also gives a recommended next clean date.
Do you cover Hillingdon?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Hillingdon.
Hillingdon kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 70 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 63 sandwich bars and takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Hillingdon. The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. Food hygiene inspections in Hillingdon are the job of Hillingdon council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Most London extract cleaning happens at night, after the last service.
A hospital like Hillingdon Hospital, about 1 mile south-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. For schools such as Abbotsfield School for Boys, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Different parts, different methods
Bends and transitions
Transitions from the canopy spigot into the duct catch a lot of grease. We clean it from the canopy side or through a nearby panel.
Multi-storey and shared buildings
A fire in a duct in a shared building can affect far more than one kitchen, so the responsible person has more reason to keep it clean. Your certificate and report give building managers the record they need.
What else we do in Hillingdon
Multi-site and managed buildings
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.
Keeping the system healthy
Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Keep your cleaning records together
- Leave a way through to the access panels
- Report any grease dripping from duct joints
- Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the surrounding area is left clean. Grease and dirty water are contained and removed.
Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. Grease you can reach is grease that gets removed.
When to call us in Hillingdon
Many ducts don’t have enough access panels. Sections between panels go uncleaned, sometimes since the system was installed, and grease there keeps thickening unseen.
Look out for any of the following:
- High readings at a recent grease test
- Grease seeping out of the duct seams
- Gaps where access panels were never fitted
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St John, or anywhere in Hillingdon, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
What your quote should include
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
- Whether VAT is included
- When the next visit should be, and why
- Whether the figure could change on the day
