Book a TR19 clean in UB8

Kitchen extract cleaning across UB8: what to expect

Every time food is cooked, warm vapour carries fat up into the extract. As it cools, it clings to the inside of the ductwork and keeps building. That layer will burn, and a proper clean removes it before it becomes a fire risk. Common call-outs are for a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer and grease smells coming from the extract, across vertical risers, plenums and filters and extract fans.

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
  3. After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

How we quote

We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.

Why businesses in UB8 choose us

  • Survey first, then a fixed quote
  • Trading since 2009
  • Fixed quotes from a survey or pictures
  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Around Uxbridge

Typical jobs here are in premises near Church of St Andrew, Whitehall Junior School and Uxbridge High School. Nearby too are West Middlesex College (0.7 miles west) and Three Tuns pub (under half a mile north). The closest station to Uxbridge is West Drayton station, about 2.1 miles south. Well-known places in the area include The Chimes (under half a mile north) and Hillingdon Hospital (1.2 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Northala Fields and Uxbridge Moor.

Kitchen extracts across UB8

In UB8, a busy kitchen in a place such as Hayes, Hillingdon and Uxbridge and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.

In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and a TR19® certificate and photo report give you a record of the work.

Uxbridge: School kitchens, at schools like Whitehall Junior School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Ickenham Hall is about 2.2 miles north-east), access may need planning.

When something else is needed

Kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It does not solve:

  • An undersized canopy or fan
  • A fan motor that has burnt out
  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)

What the work involves, part by part

Grease filters

Filters need cleaning far more often than the duct and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Clean filters slow the build-up further down the system.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Losing a service is not an option for most restaurants and pubs. We work overnight and at weekends where that suits, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.

Leave it or put it right?

Any food business in UB8 can expect visits from the council’s environmental health officers, and a greasy canopy or dripping filters will not go unnoticed. A clean extract is one less thing to worry about on the day.

Comparing quotes

  • Whether the price is fixed
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Looking after it afterwards

So the system stays in good health:

  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Give the canopy a daily wipe
  • Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking

You leave with a date for the next clean, set from your daily cooking hours and the readings we took. We can put the system on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly plan, so the date isn’t missed.

Stick to the cleaning interval on the certificate. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval should be looked at again, and grease readings will show it.

UB8: your questions answered

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go, so it does not spread.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

Is a quote from photos possible?

In many cases, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

Do you cover UB8?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes UB8.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.
