Ductwork cleaning in Eton, Windsor and Maidenhead
Cleaning of kitchen extract ductwork, horizontal runs and vertical risers through access panels for Eton, with a survey first and a report with photos at the end. Ask us for a fixed quote.
- Duct runs with no cleaning record
- Heavy grease at the base of a riser
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
Between visits
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Check readings when the menu changes
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
- Don’t switch the extract off early
- Consider fitting panels where the report shows gaps
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. It’s the evidence an insurer or inspector may ask for, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.
The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Clean, properly seated filters are the duct’s best protection.
Ductwork cleaning in Eton
Nobody sees duct grease building, so nobody notices it until something goes wrong. A flare-up drawn up from the range can light it, carrying a fire along the duct and into rooms far from the kitchen. Removing it is the whole point. Typical jobs include sections of duct with no access panels and grease leaking from duct joints, on attenuators, vertical risers and bends and junctions.
Somewhere as small as Eton, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Eton questions
Can school kitchens in Eton be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Food Standards Agency records list about 50 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Eton. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.
Which fire authority looks after Eton?
Eton is in the area of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
How do you protect the area?
By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.
Is Eton in your area?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, Eton included.
What is TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
What does ductwork cleaning cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before we start.
Can extra access doors be added to the duct?
Yes, we install duct access panels. We place them where they help most, and we will recommend where.
Which accreditations do you hold?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

What happens on the day
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Eton before we set off.
- We map the duct route and check where the access panels are.
- Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
- Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
- Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
- Readings and photos are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.
Before we arrive
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.
Advice
Ductwork cleaning in Eton: the local picture
The FSA’s data shows about 38 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 15 hotels and B&Bs registered in Eton and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Eton is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. It’s Windsor and Maidenhead council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Eton. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Upton Hospital (about 1.1 miles north-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. For kitchens close to Windsor & Eton Riverside station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of Saint John the Evangelist or elsewhere in Eton, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

What the work involves, part by part
Vertical risers
Risers often pass through floors and walls, where fire dampers may be fitted. Damper testing is a separate service.
Attenuators and discharge
At the end of the duct is the discharge. Grease can collect there and stain the area around it, so it’s cleaned as far as safe access allows.
Honest limits
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Leaking duct joints that need repair
- Parts of the duct with no way in
- A worn-out fan that needs replacing
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What staff can safely do
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Why it’s worth doing now in Eton
A partly blocked duct slows the airflow. The fan works harder, the kitchen gets hotter and smoke lingers at the canopy, and grease may start to leak from joints. If the system at a site near Eton fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.
