Ductwork cleaning in Elstree

Ductwork in Elstree is cleaned the same thorough way as everywhere else we work: readings at set points, heavy grease scraped out by hand, then degreasing to suit the deposit. Readings are taken again afterwards and pictures go into your report. Common call-outs are for grease leaking from duct joints and heavy grease at the base of a riser, on bends and junctions, attenuators and vertical risers.

For a kitchen in or near Elstree, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

What happens on the day

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. In a small place like Elstree, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
  2. A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
  3. Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
  4. We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
  5. The duct is signed off with readings, pictures and a next clean date.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

Elstree: your questions answered

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Elstree in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 12 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Elstree, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Can you come to Elstree after we close?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. Your customers, staff or residents in Elstree needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

Do you work in Elstree?

Yes. Our technicians work in Elstree, within the South East and London area we cover.

What is TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.

What do you do with what you remove?

We take it away at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

What do you do to protect the area?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

Can extra access doors be added to the duct?

Yes, extra panels can be fitted. That lets the next clean reach sections that were missed, and the report will show where they’re needed.

Why act early in Elstree

Insurers know the risk of a greasy duct. Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and a claim may be refused or reduced without evidence. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. In a small place like Elstree, a system that fails can take a site out of use.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Why book with us

  • A written report with pictures after each visit
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • Full insurance on every job
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote

See our cost guide or our accreditations.

Between visits

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
  • Keep to the interval on the report
  • Flag drips from the duct right away
  • Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up

A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It records the date, the location and the technician.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

What the work involves, part by part

Vertical risers

In taller buildings, a riser may pass through several floors and fire compartments, where fire dampers may be fitted. Damper testing is a separate service.

Access panels

Every section of duct is cleaned through an access panel. Where there are none, those sections can’t be cleaned, and TR19 expects them to be recorded.

When to call us in Elstree

Risers carry the extract up through the building. Grease clings to the walls and can run down to the base as liquid grease runs down. Access along its height is needed to clean it properly.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
  • Grease seeping out of the duct seams
  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Nicholas or elsewhere in Elstree, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

What to look for in a quote

  • What records you’ll receive afterwards
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

For landlords and multi-site operators

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
