Duct cleaning in East Donyland
Ductwork cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in East Donyland. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and fully insured.
- Gaps where access panels were never fitted
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
What we do, step by step
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in East Donyland before we set off.
- Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
- You get a fixed price before work starts.
- We clean section by section, working from panel to panel.
- Bends, risers and the base of each riser get extra attention.
- Readings, pictures and a recommended next clean date complete the job.
How to prepare
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
Getting a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Ductwork cleaning in East Donyland, done properly
Once air leaves the canopy, it travels through ductwork that most people never see. Every horizontal run and vertical riser collects grease along the way, and that’s where a kitchen fire can travel. We clean it from the inside, through access panels, to BESA TR19® Grease. We are often asked to deal with sections of duct with no access panels and duct runs with no cleaning record, on vertical risers, bends and junctions and attenuators.
For a kitchen in or near East Donyland, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

East Donyland: your questions answered
Which fire authority looks after East Donyland?
East Donyland is in the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Does the sea air around East Donyland make a difference to ductwork cleaning?
Yes, to a degree: at about 2 miles from the coast, East Donyland gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.
What happens if there are not enough access panels?
Without a way in, a section cannot be cleaned properly. Those parts are listed, and we can install panels so they’re reached next time.
Are you accredited?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
Can extra access doors be added to the duct?
Yes, as part of our fits and repairs work. Panels go where they give the best access to sections that couldn’t be reached, and we’ll recommend where.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with pictures where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.
What should I send you?
Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
How much notice should we give?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
Managing agents and facilities teams in East Donyland
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- A worn-out fan that needs replacing
- Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
- Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
What the work covers
- Bends and junctions
- Multi-storey ducts
- Access panels
- Attenuators
- Horizontal duct runs
- Vertical risers
What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- A single visit or a regular plan
- The condition of the system
- The scale of the work
- How easy every part is to reach
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
What to send for a quote
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- Problems your staff have spotted
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
Want a quote for ductwork cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us about the site. We will talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
When to call us in East Donyland
Grease in a duct running from a kitchen in East Donyland is as much a fire risk as in any building. Once it lights, fire can spread along the duct and into other areas, which is why the responsible person needs it under control.
Look out for any of the following:
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Duct runs with no cleaning record
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Lawrence, or anywhere in East Donyland, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
What to look for in a quote
- Proof of insurance
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
- Whether a written report and pictures are included
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Don’t switch the extract off early
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Keep to the interval on the report
- Ask us about extra access panels where sections cannot be reached
A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It records the date, the location and the technician.
Some signs mean the duct needs attention sooner: grease leaking from duct joints, smells, or a fan that sounds rough. Testing will show whether any section has reached 500 microns.
Ductwork cleaning around East Donyland
At about 2 miles from the coast, East Donyland is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. Food Standards Agency data counts about 15 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways across East Donyland and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they cook under a canopy, grease does not stop at the filters: it settles along the duct and up the riser. It’s Colchester council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in East Donyland. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Essex County Hospital (about 3.5 miles north-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. For schools such as St Lawrence Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
