Ductwork cleaning for sites in Asheridge

Ductwork cleaning in Asheridge, done properly

Once air leaves the canopy, it travels through ductwork that most people never see. Grease settles along every metre of it and a fire in the duct can spread through the building. We clean it from the inside, through access panels, to BESA TR19® Grease. Common call-outs are for an insurer asking for TR19 evidence and grease leaking from duct joints, across bends and junctions, access panels and horizontal duct runs.

Work in a small place like Asheridge starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Different parts, different methods

Horizontal duct runs

Flat runs of duct link the canopy to the riser or the outside wall. They collect grease as the air cools and slows, so each section is cleaned through its access panels.

Attenuators and discharge

The discharge is where the duct ends and air leaves the building. Grease can collect there and stain the area around it, so it’s cleaned as far as safe access allows.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Asheridge: your questions answered

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Asheridge in the summer holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Around Asheridge, the Food Standards Agency lists about 3 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the dates the site is empty.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Asheridge?

It’s Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Asheridge. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

What is TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.

What if part of the duct cannot be reached?

Ductwork needs access to be cleaned. We record those sections on the report and can fit access panels.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

How much notice do you need?

Earlier is better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We usually quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Will the duct clean disrupt the kitchen?

The duct is cleaned out of hours, evenings, overnight or at weekends. Equipment and the extract are switched off while we work.

Aftercare tips

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Run the extract fan throughout service
  • Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Make sure filters are seated properly
  • Check readings when the menu changes

The report gives a recommended next clean date, worked out from the grease we found and how long you cook each day, in line with BESA guidance.

Keep the fan on throughout service. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Asheridge

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 3 pubs, bars and clubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Asheridge. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Asheridge sits within the area of Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Food hygiene inspections in Asheridge are the job of Buckinghamshire council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Chiltern Hospital (about 3.7 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St John's Church, or anywhere in Asheridge, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Ductwork that is corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)
  • Fire dampers that don’t close (they need testing and remedials)
  • Parts of the duct with no way in

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer.

Where we work

  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Access panels

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Asheridge

The further the air travels from the cooking, the cooler it gets. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, which is why ducts go on gathering grease well beyond the filters.

Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Grease seeping out of the duct seams
  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned
  • Sections of duct with no access panels

For schools such as Chartridge Combined School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • What insurance they carry

Our hiring checklist

How the visit works

Every visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, clear away and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Asheridge, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
  2. A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
  3. Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
  4. Bends, risers and the base of each riser get extra attention.
  5. Readings, photos and a recommended next clean date complete the job.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Advice

For landlords and multi-site operators

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
