How the job changes from site to site
Wall canopies
A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, so we clean along it as well as the inner skin.
Grease troughs and gutters
Many canopies have troughs or gutters around the edge to catch running grease. They’re emptied and cleaned during the job, so they can do their job again.
Canopy cleaning in Trolliloes, done properly
Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but a canopy can also need cleaning on its own, between full system cleans. Where that is the case, we’ll be clear that the ducts and fan are not included, so your records stay accurate. The work covers island canopies, canopy light fittings and baffle filters, and people most often call us about heavy deposits behind the grease filters and a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away.
In a small place like Trolliloes, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with pictures, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

What a clean will not put right
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

How we price canopy cleaning
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- Parking and loading at the site
- The condition of the system
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- The size of the system
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
What we need to know
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
Need a price for canopy cleaning? Please ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos with a few details about the site. We will talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before anything is booked.
What happens if it’s left?
Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. Cleaning it removes that fuel. Somewhere as small as Trolliloes, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.
Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Trolliloes
A canopy in Trolliloes picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: the hours and the type of cooking decide how fast. High-heat cooking coats it fastest.
Look out for these warning signs:
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- A hood coated in old grease
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
Horselunges Manor, about 3.7 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses near Trolliloes; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- If they look at the system before pricing
Your questions about canopy cleaning in Trolliloes
Which fire service covers Trolliloes?
Trolliloes is in the area of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Will you come out to Trolliloes?
Yes, Trolliloes is part of our area, however small the site. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
How much does canopy cleaning cost in Trolliloes?
We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before we start.
What types of premises do you cover?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
How long is a canopy clean?
A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. You’ll know before work begins.
What causes grease to drip from the hood?
Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. Cleaning removes the cause.
Do we lose a day’s trading?
Normally not. Booking the work out of hours means the site can carry on as normal. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits so parts stay in use.
What do you do to protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.
What happens on the day
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a few hours for most canopies. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Trolliloes and turn up when the site is quiet.
- The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
Before we arrive
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
Ask for a quote
Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
