The Hangers canopy cleaning
Canopy and hood cleaning for The Hangers, with a survey first and a report with pictures at the end. Ask us for a fixed quote.
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- Condensation running down the canopy
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Canopy cleaning in The Hangers
If the canopy in The Hangers is dripping, sticky or overdue a clean? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and you’ll get a fixed price, typically within one working day. Common call-outs are for fat running down the front of the hood and poor capture at the hood, across canopy light fittings, island canopies and wall canopies.
For a kitchen in or near The Hangers, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Honest limits
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- Bent or broken filters
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.

What the work involves, part by part
Grease troughs and gutters
Drips from the canopy edge often start in a full gutter. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.
School and staff canteen kitchens
In a school or workplace canteen, the canopy is often the only part of the extract staff ever see. We clean it and the plenum behind the filters, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.
Kitchen extracts in The Hangers
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 4 pubs and bars across The Hangers and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. The Hangers sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Kitchens in The Hangers get their food hygiene inspections from Winchester City council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Bishops Waltham Infant School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Whether the kitchen is in The Hangers itself or nearby, a TR19® clean covers the whole system, canopy to discharge.

Between visits
Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Clean the baffle filters often
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Check filters aren’t leaving gaps
A before and after photo report follows the clean. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.
Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
What we do, step by step
Each visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the canopy cleaning, clear away and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to The Hangers and turn up when the site is quiet.
- We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Clear loose items from the work area
Getting a quote
Getting a quote does not take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll normally have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Advice

The Hangers: your questions answered
Which environmental health team covers The Hangers?
In The Hangers, it’s Winchester City council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Can you come to The Hangers after we close?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
Will I get a report after the canopy clean?
You get a photo report with before and after pictures. If the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19 clean, a TR19 certificate is issued too.
What should I send you?
Some photos and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.
What do you do with what you remove?
It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.
Do we need to close while you work?
Normally not. Booking the work out of hours means the site can carry on as normal. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits so parts stay in use.
Why it’s worth doing now in The Hangers
If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. Somewhere as small as The Hangers, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before work begins.
