  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service

Need canopy cleaning in Standlake?

Between visits

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:

  • Check filters are not leaving gaps
  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
  • Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

A daily wipe of the hood keeps fresh grease from baking on. It will not replace a professional clean, but it slows the build-up you can see.

About our canopy cleaning in Standlake

A kitchen team can wipe the outside of a canopy, but the seams, gutters and inner skin need more. We scrape the heavy deposits, then degrease the surfaces with methods that suit the build-up, using hot water or steam where it helps. The work covers grease gutters, canopy light fittings and wall canopies, and people most often call us about smoke hanging around the canopy during service and overflowing grease troughs and gutters.

Somewhere as small as Standlake, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

We’ve been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

Different parts, different methods

Island canopies

Island canopies hang over cooking in the middle of the kitchen, so every face can collect grease. Each face is cleaned inside and out.

School and staff canteen kitchens

Canteen staff see the canopy, not the duct behind it. The canopy and plenum are both cleaned, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.

Standlake kitchens: local notes

Food Standards Agency records list about 5 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Standlake. Every kitchen among them that cooks under a canopy has a hood, plenum and filters collecting grease. The fire and rescue service for Standlake is Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. In Standlake, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from West Oxfordshire council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Giles' Church or elsewhere in Standlake, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Longworth House is about 2.5 miles south), access may need planning.

Why it’s worth doing now in Standlake

Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

What we’re called out for in Standlake

Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Grease dripping from the canopy edge
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • A hood coated in old grease
  • Condensation and grease dripping together

For schools such as Standlake Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

What your quote should include

  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • What insurance they carry

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

Standlake: your questions answered

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Standlake?

It’s Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Standlake. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Standlake during the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. There are about 2 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Standlake. Just call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

Which accreditations do you hold?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we will talk you through the next steps.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Is Standlake in your area?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, Standlake included.

How far ahead should we book?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry full insurance and have been trading since 2009.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • A hood that does not cover the cooking line
  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What the work covers

  • Canopy light fittings
  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a few hours for most canopies. Somewhere like Standlake, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

Advice

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
