Canopy cleaning in Brighthampton
Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. Under the surface, the plenum behind the filters is normally in a worse state. Canopy cleaning deals with both, so the hood looks right and works properly. Common call-outs are for greasy streaks across the canopy and poor capture at the hood, on baffle filters, canopy light fittings and wall canopies.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

How it works
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Brighthampton, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
Getting ready for the visit
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Clear the space around the work
Get a fixed quote
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
Leave it or put it right?
A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. Cleaning it removes that fuel. In a place like Brighthampton, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.
What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Keeping the system healthy
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
- Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.
Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
What canopy cleaning can’t fix
We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.
What the work covers

Brighthampton questions
Can you get to a site in Brighthampton?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Brighthampton included. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Who inspects food businesses in Brighthampton?
Kitchens in Brighthampton are inspected by West Oxfordshire council’s environmental health officers. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?
We clean when the kitchen is closed: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Equipment under the canopy needs to be off and cool.
What kinds of canopies do you clean?
Wall and island canopies, long cooking-line hoods and small single hoods. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.
What happens to the filters during the clean?
The filters come out so the plenum behind them can be cleaned, and they’re cleaned before going back in. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.
How much does canopy cleaning cost?
The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote, usually ready within one working day.
Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?
A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.
Different parts, different methods
Grease troughs and gutters
Some troughs drain to a cup or drawer, that is emptied and cleaned too, and we will show staff where it is.
Wall canopies
Wall canopies sit against a wall over a cooking line. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, so we clean along it as well as the inner skin.
Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Brighthampton
You will get a fixed price before we start. It’s based on:
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- How big the system is
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before we start.
Asking for a quote
When you contact us, it’s useful to have:
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Kitchen extracts in Brighthampton
Look up Brighthampton on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 5 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Brighthampton. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. The fire and rescue service for Brighthampton is Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Environmental health officers from West Oxfordshire council inspect food businesses in Brighthampton. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Mulberry Bush School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Longworth House, about 2.5 miles south, is one of the historic houses near Brighthampton; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Giles' Church or elsewhere in Brighthampton, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
