West Sussex · Canopy and hood cleaning
Salvington canopy cleaning
We cover Salvington for canopy cleaning. Fixed quotes, work around your opening hours and photo reports on every job.
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
- Grease filters blocking between washes
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
What happens if it’s left?
If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. Some kitchens need the canopy cleaning more often than the whole system, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. A quieter site near Salvington still needs its system looked after.
Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we will price it together.

Canopy cleaning in Salvington
Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include a greasy hood noticed by an inspector and a filter housing caked in grease, across grease gutters, wall canopies and plenum chambers.
Size does not change the work: a kitchen in a place like Salvington gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. That is why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Aftercare tips
Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
- Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Filters are back in place and seated properly ready for the next service.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.
What the work involves, part by part
Wall canopies
A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
Grease troughs and gutters
Grease channels around the canopy collect what runs down the inside. We empty and degrease them, so they can do their job again.
How it works
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Tell us when your site near Salvington is quiet and the visit will be booked for then.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Let us know about parking and loading
Get a fixed quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Advice
For landlords and multi-site operators
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across West Sussex. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
What canopy cleaning cannot fix
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- A light fitting that does not work
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you a straight answer.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Kitchen extracts in Salvington
Salvington lies within about 3 miles of the sea. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 64 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 56 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Salvington. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. It’s Worthing council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Salvington. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
Church and community hall kitchens, near St Symphorian's Church or anywhere around Salvington, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. For schools such as Durrington Infant School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Ecclesden Manor is about 3.2 miles west), access may need planning.

FAQs for Salvington
Do you work in villages like Salvington?
Yes, Salvington is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Salvington?
That’s West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.
Which sectors do you work in?
Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. We fit the work around how the site operates.
What’s TR19?
It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.
What does canopy cleaning cost?
The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote, normally ready within one working day.
Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?
TR19® Grease is about the whole extract, from canopy to discharge. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line, and we will advise on what to do next.
