Pootings canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning for Pootings, from a team that has been trading since 2009. Out-of-hours visits and 24/7 emergency callout.
- Drips from the canopy onto the range
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
How the visit works
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the job takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Pootings, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.
How to prepare
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Pootings
Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Common call-outs are for canopy gutters full of old fat and heavy deposits behind the grease filters, across plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and wall canopies.
In a village or hamlet like Pootings, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.
The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Between visits
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:
- Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Give the canopy a wipe after service
File the report alongside your fire risk assessment where an inspector can see it. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.
Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. More drips or quicker clogging often mean the cleaning interval needs looking at, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
Honest limits
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
What the work covers
- Baffle filters
- Grease gutters
- Wall canopies
- Plenum chambers
- Island canopies
- Canopy light fittings
What the work involves, part by part
Island canopies
With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.
Pub and hotel kitchens
Staff in pub and hotel kitchens work under the canopy all day, so a dripping hood quickly becomes everyone’s problem. Cleaning the canopy and plenum sorts it.
Multi-site and managed buildings
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Kent. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
Canopy cleaning around Pootings
The FSA’s data shows about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered in Pootings and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Pootings sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. It’s Sevenoaks council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Pootings. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Tandridge Priory is the nearest hospital to Pootings, about 3.1 miles north-west. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Pootings (Chartwell is about 1.4 miles north), fitting access panels needs care.

When to call us in Pootings
Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Congregational Church or elsewhere in Pootings, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Pootings: your questions answered
Can school kitchens in Pootings be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 3 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Pootings. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Do you cover smaller places like Pootings?
Yes, Pootings is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Does a canopy clean meet TR19?
You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it won’t cover the ductwork or fan. For TR19, the whole system needs cleaning, at intervals set by BESA guidance.
Which accreditations do you hold?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where needed. A fixed quote follows.
Why is my canopy dripping grease?
Normally because the troughs or gutters are full, or the plenum is overloaded. Grease has nowhere else to go, so it runs down and drips, and condensation can carry it too. Cleaning the canopy and plenum clears it.
Are the filters cleaned too?
The filters come out so the plenum behind them can be cleaned, and they’re cleaned before going back in. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.
Where does the waste go?
It leaves the site with us when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
How we price canopy cleaning
The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Parking and loading at the site
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before any work starts.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these details help:
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Problems your staff have spotted
To get a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll typically have a quote within one working day.
