About our canopy cleaning in Lisson Grove
Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. Being first in line, it collects grease on the inside surfaces, along the seams and in the troughs. Our canopy clean covers the shell inside and out, plus the plenum and the filter housing. We are often asked to deal with overflowing grease troughs and gutters and grease filters blocking between washes, across island canopies, canopy light fittings and grease gutters.
In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so work in Lisson Grove is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.
Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with pictures, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:
- The times the site is available
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- The size of the system
- Parking and loading at the site
Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.
Asking for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- The postcode and the type of business
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will typically have a quote within one working day.
When to call us in Lisson Grove
Most canopies have troughs or channels that catch running grease. Left to fill up, they spill over, so fat ends up running down the front of the hood.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Canopy gutters full of old fat
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
School kitchens, at schools like Gateway Academy for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Questions to ask before you book
- What insurance they carry
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
- Whether the figure could change on the day
The process
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Night and weekend working is normal for us in London, and a site in Lisson Grove is no exception.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- We protect everything below once it has cooled.
- Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
- Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Multi-site and managed buildings
If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Lisson Grove: your questions answered
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Lisson Grove in the summer holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. The FSA’s register shows about 71 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Lisson Grove. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Lisson Grove?
Lisson Grove is in the area of London Fire Brigade. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
How do you protect the area?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?
Single hoods, long wall canopies and island canopies alike. We work out the approach when we survey, from pictures or a visit.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
Are you accredited?
We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.
Grease, kitchens and Lisson Grove

Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Food hygiene inspections in Lisson Grove are the job of Westminster council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. In London, kitchens are usually cleaned overnight, when the kitchen is closed and loading is easier.
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Lisson Grove is Maida Vale Hospital for Nervous Diseases, about 0.5 miles west. When something else is needed
Canopy cleaning cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It does not solve:
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.
What the work covers
- Baffle filters
- Island canopies
- Grease gutters
- Canopy light fittings
- Plenum chambers
- Wall canopies
Looking after it afterwards
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
- Keep the fan on through service
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
- Check all filters are fitted before service
We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that’s cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. We keep it to what matters.
A daily wipe of the hood keeps fresh grease from baking on. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
