Questions from Lake
Do you cover smaller places like Lake?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Lake?
Fire safety enforcement in Lake is handled by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
What should I send you?
Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.
What does canopy cleaning cost?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
When do you clean the canopy?
Only while we are working, and we work out of hours, so service is not affected. We work evenings, nights and weekends.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
Canopy cleaning in Lake, done properly
Every canopy we clean in Lake gets the same treatment: we remove the filters, clean the plenum and housing, then degrease the canopy shell. Before and after photos go into your report. If you have wet, greasy drips from the hood and a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away, we can put it right, from plenum chambers, wall canopies and baffle filters onwards.
Size does not change the work: a kitchen in a place like Lake gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.
The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with pictures after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

How we price canopy cleaning
Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- The times the site is available
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Parking and loading at the site
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you will normally have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
Lake kitchens: local notes
Lake is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. The Food Standards Agency lists about 20 pubs, bars and clubs and about 64 hotels and B&Bs as registered food businesses in and around Lake, up to about a mile and a half out. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. The fire and rescue service for Lake is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Arthur Webster Memorial Hospital for Children about 1.2 miles south-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. A kitchen near Lake station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Where a hall near Church of The Good Shepherd, or anywhere in Lake, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.
Lake is about 1 mile south-west of Sandown, in the Isle of Wight. We provide canopy cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Lake and the rest of the Isle of Wight. We cover 125 places across the Isle of Wight, from busy centres to quieter spots. We also work in Portsmouth, about 12 miles from Lake.
We work across PO36 and PO37 for canopy cleaning and the streets around it. If you need canopy cleaning at premises on Lea Road, New Road and Percy Road or anywhere close by, we can help. You will find Lake on the A3055, which makes it straightforward for our technicians to reach for canopy cleaning. If your site is just outside Lake, we cover Sandown (1 mile north-east), Alverstone (1 mile north-west), Queen's Bower (1 mile north-west), Shanklin (1 mile south) and Alverstone Garden Village (1 mile north-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (7 miles north-west), Ryde (5 miles north), Cowes (10 miles north-west), Ventnor (4 miles south-west), East Cowes (9 miles north-west) and Oakfield (5 miles north). Island and remote sites take a little more planning, so please mention your location when you ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
Around Lake
Typical jobs here are in premises near Sandown Bay Academy, The Old Comical pub and The Bay Church of England School and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in Lake itself: Lake station. Nearby you’ll also find National Poo Museum (within half a mile east) and Arthur Webster Memorial Hospital for Children (1.2 miles south-west). Not far away are Brading Down and Alverstone Mead.
Why it’s worth doing now in Lake
A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line, and the fan works harder for less. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. Booking now means the visit to Lake is planned around you, not forced by a breakdown.
You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.
Where we work
- Canopy light fittings
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
- Grease gutters
- Baffle filters
- Plenum chambers
How it works
Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. In a smaller place like Lake, parking is rarely the issue, but tell us about gates, roof access and opening hours.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.
How to prepare
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Advice
Also in Lake
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
Different parts, different methods
Wall canopies
A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
Pub and hotel kitchens
Staff in pub and hotel kitchens work under the canopy all day, so drips and smells soon become a daily nuisance. A thorough clean puts that right.
Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
- Run the extract the whole time you’re cooking
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
Anything worth knowing goes into the report: damaged filters, gaps around the housing or troughs that need emptying more often. It’s a short list of what to watch, not a sales pitch.
Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It won’t replace a professional clean, but it slows the build-up you can see.
