Canopy cleaning in Falconwood

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Need a price for canopy cleaning? Please ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before anything is booked.

How we handle canopy cleaning in Falconwood

Every canopy we clean in Falconwood gets the same treatment: filters out, plenum scraped and degreased, then the canopy cleaned inside and out. Before and after photos go into your report. If you have condensation running down the canopy and a canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection, we can put it right, from island canopies, baffle filters and grease gutters onwards.

Kitchens in Falconwood, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. Grease in a duct like that is a fire risk to the whole building, not just the kitchen, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.

Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with photos, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

What happens if it’s left?

A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. Cleaning it removes that fuel. Choosing the date yourself beats having a fault choose it for you.

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours for most canopies, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. A name and number for whoever controls access to the building in Falconwood saves time on the night.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
  4. We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
  5. You get photos of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

Before we arrive

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

How the job changes from site to site

School and staff canteen kitchens

School and canteen kitchens often cook to set hours, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. We often clean them in holidays or at weekends.

Plenums and filter housings

Filter housings hold the filters in place, and their channels fill with grease. We clean them so the filters sit tight and leave no gaps.

Falconwood questions

Do you work at weekends in Falconwood?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. That way a site in Falconwood doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. When you ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, mention when the site is quiet.

Which environmental health team covers Falconwood?

Kitchens in Falconwood are inspected by Bexley council’s environmental health officers. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

Do we lose a day’s trading?

Not typically. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages so parts stay in use.

Will I get a report after the canopy clean?

Photos of the canopy and plenum before and after. It also gives a recommended date for the next clean.

How much does canopy cleaning cost in Falconwood?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

Canopy cleaning is part of TR19, not the whole of it. We’ll make clear on the report which parts were cleaned so nobody mistakes it for a full system clean.

What kinds of canopies do you clean?

We clean canopies in commercial kitchens of every kind. Whatever is cooked under it, the canopy is cleaned the same thorough way, with the equipment off and cool.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

Filters are removed so we can clean the plenum and housing, then cleaned and refitted. We also offer a filter exchange service for between cleans.

What we’re called out for in Falconwood

Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips, carrying grease with it. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
  • Condensation running down the canopy

If you cook for passing trade around Welling station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

When it’s something else

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A light fitting that does not work
  • Bent or broken filters
  • A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What the work covers

  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers

What staff can safely do

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
