Canopy cleaning in East End

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include a greasy hood noticed by an inspector and condensation and grease dripping together, across island canopies, grease gutters and plenum chambers.

For a kitchen in or near East End, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • A light fitting that doesn’t work

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers

Managing agents and facilities teams in East End

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy

After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.

Empty the grease troughs and cups before they fill. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Grease, kitchens and East End

Food Standards Agency data counts about 5 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of East End. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. East End is covered by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. It’s West Oxfordshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in East End. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Mary's Church or elsewhere in East End, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around East End (Blenheim Palace is about 2.7 miles east), fitting access panels needs care.

East End is about 4 miles north-east of Witney, in Oxfordshire. We provide canopy cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in East End and the rest of Oxfordshire. Our Oxfordshire coverage runs to 443 places, East End among them. Our Oxford page covers sites nearby (10 miles or so).

How it works

Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a few hours for most canopies. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in East End knowing what to expect.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and photos are taken.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Clear the space around the work

Getting a quote

Advice

Common questions in East End

Can school kitchens in East End be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. With about 2 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of East End, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Do you work in villages like East End?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor, for sites that check contractor safety.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What kinds of canopies do you clean?

We clean canopies in commercial kitchens of every kind. The routine stays the same whatever the kitchen, with the equipment off and cool.

How much of the canopy do you clean?

Inside and out, along with its seams and grease channels. The plenum and filter housing behind the filters are cleaned too.

Why it’s worth doing now in East End

Fresh grease comes off far more easily than old. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. Planning a trip to East End ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

Common problems we fix in East End

Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Grease dripping from the canopy edge
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
  • Grease filters blocking between washes

For schools such as Combe CofE Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
