Canopy cleaning in Cheam
Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. Common call-outs are for canopy gutters full of old fat and a filter housing caked in grease, across wall canopies, baffle filters and island canopies.
London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so extract cleaning in Cheam is typically done overnight, after the last service. Parking, loading and access to the roof are agreed with the building before the night of the clean.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

When it’s something else
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Cheam
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:
- How big the system is
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Any permits to work or inductions
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Cheam kitchens: local notes
Food Standards Agency records include about 18 pubs and bars in Cheam and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. London Fire Brigade covers Cheam. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Night work suits London kitchens, and roads and loading bays tend to be quieter too.
School kitchens, at schools like Glaisdale School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. If you run a café or takeaway near Cheam station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.
Cheam is about 1 mile south-west of Sutton, in Greater London. Cheam gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where necessary and a written report with photos. Across Greater London, we cover 764 places, and Cheam is one of them. We also work in London, about 12 miles from Cheam.
Our technicians cover all of SM2, SM3 and SM1 for canopy cleaning and the streets around it. If you need canopy cleaning at premises on Wray Road, York Road and The Avenue or a nearby road, we can help. If your site is just outside Cheam, we cover Belmont (1 mile south-east), Cuddington (1 mile north-west), North Looe (1 mile south-west), North Cheam (2 miles north) and Nork (2 miles south). Further out, we also cover London (12 miles north-east), City of Westminster (12 miles north), Marylebone (12 miles north), Kensington (11 miles north), St Pancras (13 miles north) and Shoreditch (14 miles north-east).

How the visit works
When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Night and weekend working is normal for us in London, and a site in Cheam is no exception.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
- We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
- The canopy is signed off with before and after pictures and a next clean date.
Preparing for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
How to get a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.
Advice
Leave it or put it right?
In Cheam, as elsewhere, a greasy canopy is one of the first things an inspector sees. Keeping it clean shows the rest of the kitchen is being looked after, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. London sites work long hours, and the longer a job is left, the bigger it gets.
You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we’ll talk you through it.

What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
Cheam: your questions answered
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Cheam?
London Fire Brigade is the fire and rescue service for Cheam. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
How do you handle parking and loading in Cheam?
Tell us where a van can stop near your site in Cheam, and about any building rules on loading. Much of our London work is done overnight, which helps.
How long will it take to clean the canopy?
A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, while long canopies, several hoods or heavy deposits take more time. You’ll know before we start.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.
Which canopies and hoods do you clean?
We clean canopies in commercial kitchens of every kind. The routine stays the same whatever the kitchen, with the equipment off and cool.
What is TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No, not in itself. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark, and many insurers ask for proof of cleaning to it. The legal duty sits in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales.
Are the filters cleaned too?
Filters are removed so we can clean the plenum and housing, then cleaned and refitted. Between cleans, a filter exchange service can keep them in good order.
Do you need canopy cleaning in Cheam?
The plenum is hidden behind the filters, so nobody sees it build up. Kitchen staff clean what they can see, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.
What we are most often called out for:
- Fat running down the front of the hood
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Sutton Hospital (about 0.8 miles east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
