AHU cleaning for sites in Hastings

What affects the cost of AHU cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The number of sites or systems
  • The times the site is available

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we’ll talk you through it.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Any previous report or certificate

To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

How we handle AHU cleaning in Hastings

If the units serving a building in Hastings have only had filter changes for years, the coils, fan and casing can be carrying far more dirt than anyone has seen. A full clean deals with all of it. Typical jobs include condensate trays that won’t empty and filters that are clogged or overdue, across dampers and louvres, internal panels and supply and extract fans.

Larger buildings in Hastings can have several air handling units serving different floors. Each has filters, coils, a drain tray and a fan that need attention, and standing water in a drain tray is a common finding.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with pictures of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Part by part

Internal casing and panels

Damaged internal linings or loose panels can shed material into the air. Anything like that is recorded with pictures.

Fans and fan sections

Before the fan is touched, the unit is shut down and made safe in agreement with the site.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Make sure the unit’s access doors open easily
  • Make sure condensate is draining away
  • Book the next check in line with the report
  • Note any water around the unit or leaks below it

You receive a TR19® certificate and a photo report after the clean. They belong in the plant or maintenance log.

Have the unit inspected regularly, in line with the risk-based approach of TR19® Air, rather than waiting for a problem.

Hastings questions

Is Hastings in your area for AHU cleaning?

Yes, we work in Hastings and the places around it. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and tell us what needs doing.

Do you do school ventilation cleaning in Hastings in the summer holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 7 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Hastings. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the dates the site is empty.

How often do AHUs need cleaning?

That is set by inspection, in line with TR19® Air. A hard-working unit, or one serving a hospital or care home, may need cleaning more often.

How do you protect the area?

We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Do you do ventilation duct cleaning too?

Yes. Ductwork is cleaned through access panels, and any sections we can’t reach are noted in the report, with new panels fitted where necessary.

Which accreditations do you hold?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What should I send you?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where necessary. A fixed quote follows.

Ventilation in Hastings buildings

The FSA’s food hygiene register lists about 7 schools, colleges and universities, about 48 caring premises (care homes, nurseries and hospitals) and about 12 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses with registered kitchens or food service within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Hastings. Classrooms, bedrooms and care spaces are often served by ducted air, and that ductwork collects dust over time. Hastings is about 52 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site. Conquest Hospital is the nearest hospital, about 1.2 miles north of Hastings. Hospitals show how much a building can rely on its ventilation, and smaller healthcare sites rely on theirs too.

Conquest Hospital, about 1.2 miles north, is the nearest hospital to Hastings, and healthcare sites of every size need their supply air kept clean. If you run an office near St Leonards Warrior Square station, its supply ductwork can gather dust for years before anyone looks inside. If you manage a school such as St Paul's Church of England Academy, ventilation cleaning is best booked for the holidays.

Hastings is in East Sussex. Across the TN34 area, we cover AHU cleaning for commercial sites. Our East Sussex coverage runs to 289 places, Hastings among them. There’s also a page for Maidstone, roughly 28 miles from Hastings.

Work in TN34, TN38, TN37 and TN35 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include London Road, Church Road and Upper Church Road, all of which we cover for AHU cleaning. Being close to the A21 and A28, Hastings is easy for our technicians to reach for AHU cleaning. If your site is just outside Hastings, we cover Silverhill (1 mile west), Blacklands (1 mile east), St Helen's (1 mile north-east), Hollington (1 mile north-west) and St Leonards (1 mile south-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Eastbourne (13 miles south-west), Bexhill-on-Sea (4 miles west), Hailsham (13 miles west), Polegate (14 miles west), Old Town (15 miles south-west) and Heathfield (15 miles north-west). As one of the bigger places in East Sussex, Hastings has commercial sites of every size, all within our area for AHU cleaning.

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes from a few hours for a compact unit to a day or more for a large one. Phased working suits larger sites in a place the size of Hastings, with each part handed back before the next starts.

  1. We agree a shutdown window that suits the building.
  2. We take before photos of each section of the unit.
  3. Filters, coils and internal surfaces are cleaned from intake to discharge.
  4. The fan and drain tray are cleaned and the drain checked.
  5. After pictures are taken and the certificate issued.

Before we arrive

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

What AHU cleaning can’t fix

AHU cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It doesn’t solve:

  • Controls and BMS settings that run the unit
  • Leaking heating or cooling coils
  • Ductwork downstream of the unit, which is a separate clean

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

Where we work

  • Dampers and louvres
  • Heating and cooling coils
  • Internal panels
  • Supply and extract fans
  • Filter sections
  • Drain trays

Why it’s worth doing now in Hastings

Cleaning a unit while it only has light dust is quick. Leave it for years and dirt bakes onto coils and casings, especially where there’s been moisture. Larger sites in Hastings are easier to manage on a planned schedule.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What your team can do, and what needs us

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
