Extract fan cleaning in Hastings, done properly
In Hastings, as everywhere we work, the fan follows a set routine: we isolate it, open the housing, scrape the impeller and degrease the lot. The result is photographed for your records. If you have fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan and a fan that hums, whines or rumbles, we can put it right.
Kitchens in a place the size of Hastings are cleaned around trading, not the other way round: late at night, early in the morning or on a closed day. Sites with more than one kitchen can be cleaned in phases.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

What extract fan cleaning cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- A cracked or broken impeller (it needs replacing)
- Wiring faults to the fan
- Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)

Hastings: your questions answered
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Hastings?
Kitchens in Hastings are inspected by Hastings council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Hastings?
Hastings is in the area of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
What does extract fan cleaning cost?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before any work starts.
Where does the waste go?
Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.
Why has my extract fan got louder?
Grease on the blades and housing is one of the usual causes, because it unbalances the fan. Worn bearings and motor problems are others, which our report will flag.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
Do we lose a day’s trading?
Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so you keep your normal hours.
Do you need to turn the fan off to clean it?
It has to be off and isolated before anyone touches it. We clean out of hours, in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so cooking isn’t affected.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
How it works
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. In Hastings, bigger jobs are often split over several out-of-hours visits.
- Diagnosis first: we look for grease, noise and vibration.
- With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
- Each blade is cleaned so the impeller runs evenly.
- Housing, outlet and the area around the motor are cleaned.
- The fan goes back into service with a report on its condition.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
Ask for a quote
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
What the work involves, part by part
Impellers and blades
Grease on the leading edges of the blades cuts the fan’s efficiency. We clean each blade back to its surface, so the fan can run as intended.
Inline duct fans
Inline fans sit within the duct run, often above a ceiling. They’re reached through access panels or by opening the casing after isolating them.
Hastings kitchens: local notes
At about 2 miles from the coast, Hastings is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. The Food Standards Agency lists about 55 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 12 hotels and guest houses as registered food businesses within about 1.5 miles of central Hastings. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Hastings is covered by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Commuter trade near St Leonards Warrior Square station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Luke's Church or elsewhere in Hastings, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. A hospital like Conquest Hospital, about 1.2 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Local landmarks in Hastings

The nearest railway station is St Leonards Warrior Square station, about 0.9 miles south. For landlords and multi-site operators
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
Fixed quotes for extract fan cleaning in Hastings
There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- How easy every part is to reach
- The scale of the work
- Site rules, permits and inductions
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before work begins.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Any previous report or certificate
- Problems your staff have spotted
There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us.
Keeping the system healthy
Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Keep access to the fan clear
- Run the extract throughout cooking
- Keep each photo report with the maintenance log
- Make sure the fan is included each time
You get before and after photos of the impeller and housing. It lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, along with the recommended next clean date.
Make sure the fan is reachable. Clear access means it’s never left out of a clean, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.
