What affects the quote in Spencers Wood

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • The scale of the work
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Asking for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

TR19 inspection in Spencers Wood

Taking on a kitchen in Spencers Wood with no cleaning records? Start with an inspection. You get readings, pictures and a clear view of what’s needed, so the next step is based on facts. We are often asked to deal with cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen and extracts that have never been grease tested, on deposit thickness tests, pre-clean surveys and access surveys.

Around a smaller place like Spencers Wood, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens if it’s left?

Without readings, you’re guessing when to clean. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, which you won’t know without measuring. You choose the date of a planned visit, and a breakdown never asks.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

How it works

A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the TR19 inspection, tidy up and leave you the report. On site, the work takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. Everything the job in Spencers Wood needs is worked out beforehand, from the survey.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, pictures and a recommended next clean.

How to prepare

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

What we’re called out for in Spencers Wood

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers look to TR19® as the benchmark. TR19® itself is not law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the extract is part of that risk.

What we are most often called out for:

  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Extracts that have never been grease tested
  • Confirming a clean reached the whole system

Where a hall near St Michael and All Angels, or anywhere in Spencers Wood, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Questions from Spencers Wood

Do you cover smaller places like Spencers Wood?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Spencers Wood included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Spencers Wood?

Food hygiene inspections in Spencers Wood are carried out by Wokingham council. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

How much does TR19 inspection cost in Spencers Wood?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.

What should I send you?

A short description and a few pictures plus the address and your hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

When should we have our next grease test?

It depends on how heavily the kitchen cooks. BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months by daily use, and testing shows if your kitchen needs more.

What happens to the waste?

We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.

Can you inspect our extract for our insurance company?

Yes. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection, and an audit report gives you that, with recommendations where something needs doing.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

Spencers Wood kitchens: local notes

Food Standards Agency records list about 5 restaurants, cafés and works canteens across Spencers Wood and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they cook under a canopy, a grease reading is the way to tell whether the extract is due a clean. Fire safety in Spencers Wood falls to Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. It’s Wokingham council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Spencers Wood. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Stratfield Saye House is about 3.3 miles south), access may need planning. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Royal Berkshire Hospital (about 3.9 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Keeping the system healthy

Once we have finished, these simple steps help:

  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
  • Book the next test on the date in the report
  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together

Each report suggests the next clean and the next test, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used.

Close the access gaps found during inspection, so every part of the duct can be cleaned.

What a clean won’t put right

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning
  • Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
  • Ductwork that was designed or installed badly

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before you book.
