TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in South Ascot
TR19® Grease says grease should not exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Testing is how you know where your system stands. Typical jobs include kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings and kitchens whose menu or hours have changed, across post-clean checks, insurer audits and deposit thickness tests.
In a smaller place like South Ascot, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

TR19 inspection in South Ascot: the local picture
Food Standards Agency data counts about 36 restaurants, cafés and canteens in South Ascot and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Kitchens like these cook for very different hours, and grease testing shows which extracts need cleaning soonest. It’s Windsor and Maidenhead council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in South Ascot. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Fire safety in South Ascot falls to Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as St Francis Catholic Primary School or anywhere near South Ascot, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. If you run a café or takeaway near Ascot station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of All Souls or elsewhere in South Ascot, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Around South Ascot
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Silwood Park, Charters School and St Mary's School. The nearest railway station is Ascot station, about 0.5 miles north-west. What your team can do, and what needs us
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

South Ascot: your questions answered
Can you clean school kitchen extracts in South Ascot during the holidays?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. There are about 13 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of South Ascot. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Which fire service covers South Ascot?
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for South Ascot. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Do you cover South Ascot?
Yes. We work in South Ascot and the rest of Windsor and Maidenhead, as part of our work across South East England and London. To book, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
What accreditations do you have?
We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.
What is a WFTT or DTT grease test?
Grease thickness testing measures the layer of grease on the duct surfaces, by WFTT or DTT. Each reading is recorded in microns.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.
Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?
Yes. Our TR19 audits cover readings, photos, access and a recommended cleaning interval. It’s set out for your insurer or broker.
What affects the quote in South Ascot
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:
- The number of sites or systems
- Parking and loading at the site
- The condition we find in the survey
- A single visit or a regular plan
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Helping us quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
Getting a quote does not take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
Multi-site and managed buildings
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.
When something else is needed
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- Mechanical faults in the extract
- Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
- Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.
What the work covers

How it works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Tell us when your site near South Ascot is quiet and the visit will be booked for then.
- First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
- We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
- Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
- Grease readings are taken and photos recorded.
- We report back with readings and a fixed quote.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored near the system
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
Ask for a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.
Advice
Keeping the system healthy
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked
- Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
- File every inspection report with your certificates
- Flag oily drips near the extract
If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can quote to do it.
Fit access panels where the survey finds sections cannot be reached, so grease isn’t left building in hidden parts.
Different parts, different methods
Extract fan and discharge
A greasy fan works harder and wears faster. The inspection shows whether it needs cleaning now.
Horizontal duct runs
Grease can gather thickly at bends and along long runs, out of sight of the kitchen.
