About our TR19 inspection in Sarsden
Grease thickness testing tells you how much grease is sitting in the canopy, ducts and fan. We use the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT), taking readings at set points. From the numbers, you can see whether cleaning is due. We are often asked to deal with sites with gaps in their extract records and post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean, on wet film thickness tests, deposit thickness tests and post-clean checks.
Work in a small place like Sarsden starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

For landlords and multi-site operators
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed quote.
What we are called out for in Sarsden
Grease is fuel. A flare-up on the range can be drawn into the canopy and duct, and from there a fire can spread through the ductwork. Knowing how much there is lets you act before it becomes a hazard.
Clients normally contact us after spotting something like this:
- Pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean
- Missing TR19 certificates or history
- Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
- Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St James or anywhere around Sarsden, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
Questions to ask before you book

What else we do in Sarsden
Sarsden kitchens: local notes
Sarsden sits within the area of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. In Sarsden, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from West Oxfordshire council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Chastleton House, about 4.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses near Sarsden; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Chipping Norton School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
Sarsden is about 9 miles north-west of Witney, in Oxfordshire. Sarsden gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. Sarsden is one of 443 places in Oxfordshire where we work for commercial clients. We also work in Oxford, around 18 miles away.

Questions from Sarsden
Will you come out to Sarsden?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Sarsden included. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Which council inspects kitchens in Sarsden?
In Sarsden, it’s West Oxfordshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you’ll get one fixed quote.
What is TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
What should I send you?
Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
How do you protect the area?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?
Often enough to know the mean stays under 200 microns between cleans. If readings rise, the interval should shorten.
What about areas you can’t get to?
They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.
What we do, step by step
A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the TR19 inspection, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Sarsden.
- We go through any past certificates and reports.
- The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
- Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
- Grease readings are taken and pictures recorded.
- You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.
Preparing for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
Getting a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.
Advice
What the work involves, part by part
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
A kitchen running from breakfast to late service builds grease quickly. Readings show if the cleans are frequent enough.
Horizontal duct runs
Sections without access are recorded so panels can be added.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked
- Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
- Flag oily drips near the extract
- Keep to the recommended interval
The report recommends when the system should next be cleaned and tested, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used.
Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It shows if build-up is speeding up.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
What TR19 inspection can’t fix
In fairness, some problems need a different fix:
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
- Fire safety duties beyond the extract system
- Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.
