TR19 inspection for sites in Milford on Sea

About our TR19 inspection in Milford on Sea

BESA’s minimum cleaning frequencies depend on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day, every 6 months for moderate use of 6 to 12 hours, and every 12 months for light use of 2 to 6 hours. Grease testing shows whether your kitchen needs cleaning more often than that. The work covers access surveys, wet film thickness tests and pre-clean surveys, and the jobs we see most are parts of the system left out of past cleans and uncertainty over how often to clean.

Around a smaller place like Milford on Sea, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Hidden runs that need access panels first
  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
  • A faulty or failing extract fan

If you are not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What happens on the day

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site, and we clear up before we go. In a place like Milford on Sea, we fit the visit around your hours.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
  3. Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, pictures and a recommended next clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

How to get a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

What TR19 inspection looks like in Milford on Sea

Milford on Sea is within about 1 mile of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. Food Standards Agency data counts about 15 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens in Milford on Sea and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they cook under a canopy, a grease reading is the way to tell whether the extract is due a clean. Environmental health officers from New Forest council inspect food businesses in Milford on Sea. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Lymington New Forest Hospital about 3.6 miles north-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Milford-on-Sea Church of England Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of All Saints, or anywhere in Milford on Sea, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Why deal with it now?

Do not wait for an EHO visit or insurance renewal to find gaps in your extract records. A recent inspection report means you’re ready when asked. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

What affects the quote in Milford on Sea

Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The times the site is available

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Helping us quote

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Problems your staff have spotted

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We typically come back within one working day.

Aftercare tips

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
  • Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Book the next test on the date in the report

Where sections couldn’t be reached, the report says where access panels would help. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.

Clean, correctly fitted filters stop more grease reaching the duct. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.
