TR19 inspection in High Cross, done properly
Taking on a kitchen in High Cross with no cleaning records? Start with an inspection. We survey the system, measure the grease and tell you what needs doing, so the next step is based on facts. The work covers insurer audits, post-clean checks and wet film thickness tests, and people most often call us about confirming a clean reached the whole system and an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit.
Work in a small place like High Cross starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
What TR19 inspection cannot fix
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
- Design faults in the extract system
- Mechanical faults in the extract
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think.

How it works
The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, which takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in High Cross before we set off.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- We open the access points used on the clean.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- We photograph each area to record how it was left.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
How to prepare
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
Getting a quote
Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

What the work involves, part by part
Horizontal duct runs
Sections without access are recorded so panels can be added.
Canopy and plenum
Behind the filters, the plenum catches plenty of grease. Readings and photos are taken in the plenum on every inspection.
What affects the quote in High Cross
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- A single visit or a regular plan
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- The scale of the work
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.
What we need to know
You do not need the technical terms. Just send:
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The postcode and the type of business
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
What TR19 inspection looks like in High Cross
At about 24 miles from central London, High Cross sits well inside the area we cover. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site. Kitchens in High Cross get their food hygiene inspections from East Hertfordshire council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Hertford County Hospital (about 4.6 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. For schools such as Thundridge Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Much Hadham Palace is about 4.2 miles east), access may need planning.
High Cross is about 2 miles north of Ware, in Hertfordshire. Anywhere in SG11, we cover TR19 inspection for commercial sites. Our area takes in 381 places across Hertfordshire, from busy centres to quieter spots. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, about 23 miles away.

Questions from High Cross
Which fire authority looks after High Cross?
Fire safety enforcement in High Cross is handled by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Do you work at weekends in High Cross?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. That way a site in High Cross doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?
We suggest a next test date in every report, taking the readings and the kitchen’s hours into account. The interval should come from a competent person’s risk assessment backed by grease measurement.
How do you protect the area?
By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.
What should I send you?
Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
What types of premises do you cover?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.
What happens on a pre-clean survey?
It’s a look at the whole extract before it’s cleaned, with readings and photos. We can work from photos and details, or visit, as suits the job.
Looking after it afterwards
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Never cook with filters missing
- Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
- Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
- Keep canopy edges and gutters wiped down
After post-clean verification, file the results with the cleaning certificate. The pair gives a clear record of the clean and the check.
Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It spots changes in how fast grease builds.
