When to call us in High Cross

Each blade collects a slightly different amount. Over time, that imbalance shakes the fan and puts strain on the bearings. What starts as a grease problem can become a mechanical one.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • Fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan
  • An extract fan with no cleaning record
  • Grease around the motor and its mounts
  • Less air being pulled from the kitchen

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Thundridge Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Extract fan cleaning in High Cross, done properly

We have been trading since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and full insurance. If you have a noisy fan that has got louder over time and a fan shaking on its mounts, we can help.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with pictures, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

The process

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes an hour or two for most single fans, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like High Cross.

  1. First we locate the fan and agree how it’s safely isolated.
  2. Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
  3. We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
  4. Blades, housing and the area around the motor are degreased with care.
  5. The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.

How to prepare

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Common questions in High Cross

Which environmental health team covers High Cross?

That is East Hertfordshire council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in High Cross. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around High Cross out of term?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Around High Cross, the Food Standards Agency lists about 3 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just call 0345 646 2711, or email photos with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

Are you accredited?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Do you offer extract fan cleaning separately?

Yes. The report will make clear that only the fan was cleaned, so your TR19 records stay accurate. The full system still needs its regular TR19 clean.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

Can you work evenings and weekends?

Yes. Much of our work happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so you do not have to close during trading.

What information do you need?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.

How much does extract fan cleaning cost in High Cross?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote and we will typically reply within one working day.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Looking after it afterwards

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Leave a clear route to the fan
  • Book the fan into every full TR19 clean
  • Check filters are seated before cooking
  • Keep the fan on whenever the range is lit

When the fan is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If only the fan is cleaned, the photo report says so.

Do not run the kitchen with the extract off. Grease settles faster when the air stops moving, so keeping it running helps keep it clean.

Why it’s worth doing now in High Cross

A greasy fan has to work harder to move the same air. Airflow at the canopy drops and the kitchen gets hotter and smokier and the motor works harder. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to High Cross is calmer for everyone.

We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will explain what it covers.

Why us?

  • Work around your opening hours, with 24/7 emergency cover
  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote

How we price extract fan cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The condition of the system

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Getting a quote does not take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
