TR19 inspection in Hamsey Green

How we handle TR19 inspection in Hamsey Green

Insurance policies often require evidence of TR19® cleaning and inspection. Missing records can lead to a claim being reduced or refused. Our TR19 audits give sites in Hamsey Green and across Surrey a clear record of the system’s condition. We’re often asked to deal with confirming a clean reached the whole system and kitchens whose menu or hours have changed, on deposit thickness tests, wet film thickness tests and post-clean checks.

In a village or hamlet like Hamsey Green, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

What the work involves, part by part

Canopy and plenum

The plenum behind the filters can carry a lot of grease. We take readings there and photograph it on every inspection.

Horizontal duct runs

Bends and long runs can hold heavy deposits, well away from where anyone looks.

FAQs for Hamsey Green

Who is the fire and rescue service for Hamsey Green?

Hamsey Green is in the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you work at weekends in Hamsey Green?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in Hamsey Green keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

How much notice do you need?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We usually quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

How long does grease testing take?

An inspection takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. Sites with several canopies take longer, so give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will plan it.

What’s TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Why deal with it now?

After an incident, an insurer can ask to see proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection. Missing records can put a claim at risk. Getting an inspection done now starts that paper trail. In a place like Hamsey Green, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

How it works

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Hamsey Green can be planned properly.

  1. After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
  2. We open the access points used on the clean.
  3. We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
  4. We photograph each area to record how it was left.
  5. We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

How to get a quote

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Advice

Hamsey Green kitchens: local notes

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 13 pubs and bars within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Hamsey Green. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. It’s Croydon council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Hamsey Green. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Hamsey Green is covered by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Addington Palace is about 2.8 miles north), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Warlingham Park Hospital is the nearest hospital to Hamsey Green, about 1.4 miles east.

Hamsey Green is about 1 mile north of Warlingham, in Surrey. Wherever you are in the CR6 postcode area, we can carry out TR19 inspection at your premises. 395 places in Surrey are on our list, large and small. For sites nearby, see our London page, about 13 miles away.

Between visits

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:

  • Keep access panels clear and unpainted
  • Book the next test on the date in the report
  • Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs
  • Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals

After the inspection, we send a report showing each reading, its location and photos. File it alongside your TR19 certificates.

When cooking hours or the menu change, check the interval still fits. A quick grease test answers the question.

When to call us in Hamsey Green

You cannot judge grease thickness by eye. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, so readings are the reliable guide.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Parts of the system left out of past cleans
  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning
  • Uncertainty over how often to clean
  • Sites with gaps in their extract records

For schools such as Hamsey Green Primary, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Our hiring checklist

What affects the quote in Hamsey Green

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • The size of the system
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Parking and loading at the site

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What to send for a quote

You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.
