About our TR19 inspection in Fox
A grease test measures how thick the grease is inside a kitchen extract system. We use the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT), taking readings at set points. From the numbers, you can see whether cleaning is due. Common call-outs are for an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit and checking the result of a recent clean, across wet film thickness tests, insurer audits and pre-clean surveys.
Work in a small place like Fox starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What the work involves, part by part
Vertical risers
Vertical risers take the extract up through the floors. Grease can run down and collect at the base, so we check there.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Hospital and care home kitchens can cook all day, every day. Testing shows if the cleaning interval keeps pace.

What affects the quote in Fox
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- The condition we find in the survey
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- The scale of the work
- Site rules, permits and inductions
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- A few general shots of the system
- The postcode and the type of business
We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
What your team can do, and what needs us
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Why it’s worth doing now in Fox
If there’s a fire or a claim, your insurer may ask for TR19 records. Without them, a claim can be reduced or refused. An up-to-date inspection report is a good place to start. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.
Why book with us
- One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
- Fixed quotes, typically within one working day
- Survey first, then a fixed quote
- CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
Take a look at how cleaning jobs are priced or how to check a contractor.
What happens on the day
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Fox, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
- The same access points are opened up.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
Get a fixed quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Advice
Multi-site and managed buildings
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Hampshire. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

Can the work in Fox be done at night or at weekends?

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Fox during the holidays?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 2 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Fox. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
Do you cover Fox?
Yes. Our technicians work in Fox, within the South East and London area we cover.
What do the grease readings need to be?
TR19® Grease says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere at 500 microns or more needs spot cleaning right away.
What information do you need?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
Keeping the system healthy
How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
- Flag oily drips near the extract
- Book the next test on the date in the report
- Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
The audit report is set out to pass straight to your insurer or broker, with readings, pictures and any areas not accessible.
Close the access gaps found during inspection, so every part of the duct can be cleaned.
Kitchen extracts in Fox
Fire safety in Fox falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Fox are the job of Test Valley council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
Term dates shape school work: for a school like Amport Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
