Different parts, different methods

Horizontal duct runs

Horizontal runs carry the extract along ceilings and through voids. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, and we clean them section by section through access panels.

Bends and transitions

Grease tends to pile up at elbows. It’s scraped out and degreased, and test it before and after.

Ductwork cleaning in Fox

Duct cleaning is the hardest part of an extract clean, and the part most often skipped. Without enough access panels, long stretches can go years without being touched. Each section we can reach is cleaned, and any we can’t is written down, so you know exactly where you stand. The work covers multi-storey ducts, vertical risers and attenuators, and the jobs we see most are ductwork that has never been cleaned and thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

Each visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Fox run smoothly.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
  3. We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. Readings and pictures are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.

What affects the quote in Fox

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • How big the system is
  • What state the system is in
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Travel, parking and unloading

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

Want a quote for ductwork cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us about the site. We’ll explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Ductwork cleaning in Fox: the local picture

Fox sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Food hygiene inspections in Fox are the job of Test Valley council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as Amport Church of England Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Andover War Memorial Hospital about 4.2 miles north-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Fox, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Fox is about 5 miles west of Andover, in Hampshire. Across the SP11 area, we can carry out ductwork cleaning at your premises. Across Hampshire, we cover 683 places, Fox among them. Our Southampton page covers sites nearby (21 miles or so).

Managing agents and facilities teams in Fox

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed quote.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Check readings when the menu changes
  • Leave a way through to the access panels
  • Don’t switch the extract off early
  • Make sure filters are seated properly

You will have a recommended date for the next clean, worked out from the grease we found and how long you cook each day, in line with BESA guidance.

Keep to the cleaning interval on the report. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval may need to shorten, and grease thickness testing will show it.

Fox questions

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Fox?

Fox is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Is Fox within the area you cover?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Fox is covered. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you install duct access panels?

Yes, we fit access panels where the duct needs them. It means more of the duct can be cleaned next time, and the report will show where they’re needed.

What accreditations do you have?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We carry full insurance, and we have been trading since 2009.

How long does it take to clean extract ducts?

Duct length, access and grease levels all affect it. As a guide, it takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

When it’s something else

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • Fire dampers that don’t close (they need testing and remedials)
  • Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
  • Parts of the duct with no way in

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Bends and junctions
  • Attenuators
  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Access panels
  • Horizontal duct runs

What your team can do, and what needs us

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
