TR19 inspection across Felpham

Felpham kitchens: local notes

Felpham is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. The FSA’s data shows about 32 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 7 hotels and B&Bs registered within about 1.5 miles of central Felpham. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Kitchens in Felpham get their food hygiene inspections from Arun council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Felpham, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital (about 1 mile west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. School kitchens, at schools like Felpham Community College for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Felpham is about 1 mile east of Bognor Regis, in West Sussex. From the centre of Felpham to the outskirts, TR19 inspection is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Felpham is one of 371 towns, villages and districts in West Sussex where we work for commercial clients. Portsmouth is in our area too, about 19 miles from Felpham.

We work across PO22 and PO21 for TR19 inspection and the streets around it. Whether your site is on Sea Road, Ley Road and Limmer Lane or a nearby road, we can help. We also cover the places around Felpham: South Bersted (1 mile west), Flansham (1 mile north-east), Bognor Regis (1 mile west), Middleton-on-Sea (2 miles east) and Shripney (2 miles north-west). Further out, we also cover Worthing (11 miles east), Chichester (6 miles north-west), Selsey (7 miles south-west), Littlehampton (6 miles east), Lancing (15 miles east) and Emsworth (13 miles west).

About our TR19 inspection in Felpham

Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, while a reading of 500 microns or more anywhere calls for immediate spot cleaning. Testing is how you know where your system stands. If you have confirming a clean reached the whole system and missing access panels found on survey, we can help.

For a smaller kitchen near Felpham, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after each visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in Felpham and across West Sussex. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Keep access panels clear and unpainted
  • Keep to the recommended interval
  • File every inspection report with your certificates
  • Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals

Readings of 500 microns or more are highlighted as needing immediate spot cleaning, and we can arrange it.

Clean, correctly fitted filters stop more grease reaching the duct. Gaps around filters let grease get past them.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • The times the site is available
  • How big the system is
  • A single visit or a regular plan

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from pictures. The most useful are:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Questions from Felpham

Which fire authority looks after Felpham?

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Felpham. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Is Felpham within the area you cover?

Yes. Felpham is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

Are you accredited?

We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

What is grease thickness testing?

The Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) and Deposit Thickness Test (DTT) measure how thick the grease is at a given point. Readings are taken at set points through the system.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.

What does TR19 inspection cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before any work starts.

Can you inspect our extract for our insurance company?

Yes, anywhere in the area we cover. Tell us what your insurer has asked for and we will set the report out to match.

Leave it or put it right?

Surveying first means the clean goes to plan. Missing access panels, hidden duct runs and awkward fans are found before the cleaners arrive, so the clean covers the whole system. It’s easy to lose track of when the work was last done on a quieter site.

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Why us?

  • A fixed price before any work starts
  • Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus 24/7 emergency callout
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
  • Fully insured

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

What happens on the day

Each visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, make the system safe, carry out the TR19 inspection, tidy up and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. Tell us about any gates, ladders or locked plant areas at your site near Felpham when you book.

  1. After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
  2. The same access points are opened up.
  3. Grease readings are taken again at set points.
  4. We photograph each area to record how it was left.
  5. We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Advice

Different parts, different methods

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Hospital and care home kitchens can cook all day, every day. Readings show if cleaning is frequent enough.

Canopy and plenum

Filters can look fine while the plenum behind them is heavily coated. So we measure behind the filters, not just in front.
