TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Chalton

A grease test measures how thick the grease is inside a kitchen extract system. We use the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT), taking readings at set points. The results show whether the system needs cleaning and how soon. If you have missing access panels found on survey and kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings, we can put it right, from post-clean checks, pre-clean surveys and access surveys onwards.

In a village or hamlet like Chalton, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

When it’s something else

Not every problem is solved by TR19 inspection, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • A faulty or failing extract fan

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Insurer audits
  • Access surveys
  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Pre-clean surveys

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. For a village or hamlet like Chalton, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
  2. We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
  3. We note where access panels are and where more are needed.
  4. Grease readings are taken and pictures recorded.
  5. We report back with readings and a fixed quote.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

What happens if it’s left?

After an incident, an insurer can ask to see proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection. Without them, a claim can be reduced or refused. An up-to-date inspection report is a good place to start. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
  • Keep access panels clear and unpainted
  • Diary the next grease test and clean
  • Store grease readings where your insurer can see them

If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can quote to do it.

Clean, correctly fitted filters stop more grease reaching the duct. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.

Signs you need TR19 inspection in Chalton

When a site in Chalton changes owner or cleaning contractor, the records do not always follow. With no history, the current state of the extract is a guess.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
  • Missing TR19 certificates or history
  • Extracts that have never been grease tested
  • Uncertainty over how often to clean

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Petersfield Community Hospital about 4.7 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Part by part

Canopy and plenum

Behind the filters, the plenum catches plenty of grease. We take readings there and photograph it on every inspection.

Horizontal duct runs

Sections without access are recorded so it can be fixed before the clean.

Common questions in Chalton

Can the work in Chalton be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Chalton does not have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Chalton?

In Chalton, it’s East Hampshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you work in Chalton?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, Chalton included.

How often should grease be tested?

Each report recommends when to test and clean next, taking the readings and the kitchen’s hours into account. A risk assessment based on measured grease should set the interval.

What does TR19 inspection cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

At what point does grease need cleaning?

Two figures matter: a mean of no more than 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns at any single point, which needs immediate spot cleaning. We show your readings against those figures.

Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?

Yes, for kitchens across the South East and London. Share the insurer’s request so the report addresses it.

How far ahead should we book?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
