TR19 inspection in Bepton Common
A grease test measures how thick the grease is inside a kitchen extract system. We use the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT), taking readings at set points. From the numbers, you can see whether cleaning is due. Typical jobs include surveys needed before quoting a full clean and kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings, across pre-clean surveys, post-clean checks and deposit thickness tests.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

How the visit works
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system, and we clear up before we go. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Bepton Common and turn up when the site is quiet.
- We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
- We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
- Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
- You get a report with readings, pictures and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
Ask for a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Advice
TR19 inspection around Bepton Common
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 9 pubs and bars within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Bepton Common. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. The fire and rescue service for Bepton Common is West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Environmental health officers from Chichester council inspect food businesses in Bepton Common. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Cowdray House is about 1.3 miles north-east), access may need planning. A hospital like Midhurst Community Hospital, about 1.4 miles north-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Church and community hall kitchens, near Roman Catholic Church of Divine Motherhood or anywhere around Bepton Common, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

FAQs for Bepton Common
Who is the fire and rescue service for Bepton Common?
It’s West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Bepton Common. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Is Bepton Common within the area you cover?
Yes. Bepton Common is within the area we cover across London and the South East. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Where does the waste go?
Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
Why survey before a clean?
The survey covers the whole system, grease readings and access to each section. It lets us plan the clean and send you a fixed quote.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No, TR19® isn’t legislation. But the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk under the Fire Safety Order 2005, which in a kitchen includes grease in the extract. Many insurance policies also require TR19 adherence.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.
Will you produce a report for our insurer?
Yes. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection, and our audit gives a clear record of the system’s condition, along with any actions needed.
Why deal with it now?
Without readings, you are guessing when to clean. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning under TR19® Grease, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we’ll talk you through it.

What staff can safely do
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
Keeping the system healthy
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Flag oily drips near the extract
- Do not box in or cover duct access panels
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
- Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, with readings, pictures and any areas not accessible.
Clean, correctly fitted filters stop more grease reaching the duct. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.
