TR19 inspection for sites in Baulking

Keeping the system healthy

Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Diary the next grease test and clean
  • Keep the route to access panels clear
  • Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly

Keep the verification report next to the certificate it relates to. Together they show the system was cleaned and checked.

Fit access panels where the survey finds sections can’t be reached, so grease is not left building in hidden parts.

How we handle TR19 inspection in Baulking

Insurance policies often require evidence of TR19® cleaning and inspection. Missing records can lead to a claim being reduced or refused. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and photos, for sites in Baulking and the rest of Oxfordshire. If you have heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts and missing access panels found on survey, we can put it right.

Work in a small place like Baulking starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Baulking knowing what to expect.

  1. First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
  2. We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
  3. Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
  4. Grease readings are taken and pictures recorded.
  5. We report back with readings and a fixed quote.

How to prepare

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

How to get a quote

For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

What the work involves, part by part

Vertical risers

Risers carry the extract up through the building. Grease can drain down and pool at the bottom, so we check there.

Extract fan and discharge

The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, as grease can build up there too.

Baulking questions

Do you work at weekends in Baulking?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in Baulking does not have to lose a day’s trading. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

Which council inspects kitchens in Baulking?

Food hygiene inspections in Baulking are carried out by Vale of White Horse council. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Is a quote from pictures possible?

Yes, for many jobs. Send wide shots, close-ups of any access panels and anything that worries you, and we normally come back within one working day. If photos are not enough, we will survey first.

Do we have to follow TR19 by law?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification and the industry benchmark, not legislation. The law is the Fire Safety Order 2005, under which the responsible person must manage fire risk, and TR19® is what insurers and fire officers look to.

Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?

Yes. Insurers often want evidence the extract is managed to TR19®, and an audit report gives you that, along with any actions needed.

How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?

Often enough to know the mean stays under 200 microns between cleans. If readings rise, the interval should shorten.

What do you do with what you remove?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go, so it doesn’t spread.

How do you measure grease in a kitchen extract?

Readings are taken using the Wet Film Thickness Test or the Deposit Thickness Test, and set against the TR19® Grease figures.

Why deal with it now?

Post-clean verification shows whether the system was left the way the certificate says, before the next clean is due. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Baulking rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before work begins.

When to call us in Baulking

Grease in a duct is flammable fuel. A flare-up on the range can be drawn into the canopy and duct, and from there a fire can spread through the ductwork. Knowing how much there is lets you act before it becomes a hazard.

The symptoms we’re asked about most include:

  • Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
  • Uncertainty over how often to clean
  • Sites with gaps in their extract records
  • Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Nicholas, or anywhere in Baulking, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

For landlords and multi-site operators

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.
